If you have a PI I'm pretty sure they re stall it once for free

Mine is between a 2200 and 2400, PI triple plate.

If you're getting a new one, see if they can make you a 10.5". WOT clutch lockup, no problem. I don't know if they have a 10.5" for the 4r70/4r75 but that's what I have in the 4r100 and it works great.

I was told unless I have deep pockets and/or drag race alot I would not need a converter. I have gone down one size on the pulley and have a DR Dyno Tune (Thanks Dennis)and I am extremely happy with the low rpm torque my car makes. I also have 3.73 gears.

i have 4.10s and a 3500 stall with an eaton and plans to go bigger, the stock will not hold up. ps i dont have deep pockets, i do my own work.

thanks guys

Dave, unless I have it wrong the Stalls are to get you in the powerband that makes more power for your power-adder. the Eaton/trilogy's provide enough low end power so that your don't need a stall, especially with the 4.10 gears.

that would be correct but the reason the stock would work is because i plan on putting more power down in the future and it would probably explode.

I would spend the coin on tranny upgrades. It may be a weaker link.

PI Triple disc @ 2700-2900 would be ideal for PD esp if you plan on boosting more - imho

I have stock stall speed. I wouldn't want my Whippled low end torque to get washed out in the hi-stall converter especially in a heavy car.

That's too high for a PD, heck it's too high for a high power centrifugal. When I had the ProCharger and BB/S making 660rwhp I changed from a 2800 to a 2400 to keep from blowing away the tires on launch.

If you go big get a good converter from Circle D or Dirty Dog.
Skip the PI, the are too unpredictable in my book.

I have about a 2700 stall 9.5" single disk CircleD converter in the Grand Marquis and the stock 11.25" (~2100 stall) in the Marauder. These cars make similar power to each other, GM makes more down low and Marauder makes more top.

The GM is a dog in normal light driving, compared to the Marauder. The high stall eats up quite a bit of the torque when unlocked and getting the heavy car to move. It makes the car rev several more rpms to get going. However, when asking for a modest or heavy acceleration, the converter immediately puts the Grand Marquis into its power band. The GM will absolutely leave the Marauder at launch, whether from a stand still or rolling. The converter has a lot to do with this. Once the Marauder rolls past 5,000rpm it pulls on the GM though. But that's not the converters fault.

It's interesting having both personality cars to drive. Honestly the Marauder is more enjoyable when driving modestly. There's more torque to the wheels.

If you're interested, here are some data logs of both cars making a run down the 1/4 mile. The GM has first gear launch acceleration peak of 12.95 @ 4111 where as the Marauder only pulls off a 12.39 @ 3308. Later at the top of 2nd gear, the Maruader pulls 5.49 @ 5850 to the GM's 4.38 @ 5850. Also a huge difference in the air charge temperatures by that point.
