Brakes rubbing

Ever since I installed my new pads & rotors and painted the calipers, I've been getting a "whish whish whish" sound while driving. I jacked the front end up and spun the tires, on both sides the rotors rub slightly at a certain spot.

They are brand new rotors, and don't seem to be warped at all, brake nice and smooth with no weird feelings. Anyone know what I can do to try and get rid of this noise? Could it be something with the calipers?

I'm running 4x slotted/dimpled rotors from rotorpros with hawk HPS pads x4 and the stock calipers.

Rotors that are slotted/drilled etc may make some noise, that is the nature of the beast. You are probably hearing turbulence from the pads passing past the machined depressions in the rotor face. The rotors rubbing at one spot is also probably normal, there is always going to be *some* runout of the rotor and/or hub assembly, and even if its only a thousandth or two it will appear to rub at one point.

Sounds like there's nothing wrong with your brakes.

Did you go through the bedding process? Hawk pads require it, read the instructions

on my MM the slide was stuck on the caliper bracket causing one side of the inside pad to slightly rub the rotor while driving. when i drove by fences, bridges, etc. i heard the swoosh swoosh swoosh sound your describing.

This is exactly what I'm hearing it's annoying as all hell. What do you have to to do "bed" them?

I'm talking about when just driving and not applying the brakes I'm getting the noise. The rotors making contact at one spot on the rotor every time the tire makes a revolution.

That is a warp in the rotor. Just because it's new doesn't mean its perfect. Who knows how those rotors were stored or what minimum wage flunky was throwing them around a warehouse.

when you pulled your old brakes apart was the inside pad worn off scew at all? like one piston on the caliper was hitting harder than the other? on mine i was to almost bare metal on one side and amost full pad on the other. i suspected at first a bad piston on the caliper, but i greased the slides and it seems like my news ones are wearing evenly. and no mnore swooooooshing sound....

Nope, when I pulled the old pads they were still at about 75% and worn evenly inside and out.

I'll try greasing up the caliper slides and bleeding the brakes and see if that helps some :( They don't feel warped at all when braking, I just get the annoying rubbing sound.

would getting them turned help?

only turn them if you feel a vibration when applying the brakes. i would try and determain what wheel the sound is coming from. did it make this sound before you did the brakes?

i have EBC slotted and dimpled rotors and they make that sound as well off and on the brakes. its normal.

Yep I masked everything off really well.

Nope, the stock pads / rotors were quiet as a mouse. I upgraded for more stopping power and better looks. I'd say I got both :banana2: but this noise is annoying as all hell.

I can't believe this is a normal noise....

the pads are always in contact with the rotor and since the rotor isn't a completely flat/smooth surface like OEM rotors (ie. dimpled and slotted) its going to make noise when the pads pass over each groove.

I just did my brakes. They don't make a sound and stop perfectly. It is not normal. I wish I had an answer for you.

im running the same rotors and have have no noise just a sqeak or two from the bads while breaking. are you using the EBC pads as well?

im not sure if it will make a difference im running the EBC Red stuff and my swooshing went away lol, just sqeaky as hell when there cold.

FWIW, the brakes I have on my GMQ makes the same noise as the OP is describing. It's so annoying hearing that next to walls and fences. They have done it since installed 20k miles ago. I thought it was the slide pins sticking, but there's no indication that they're sticking - wheels aren't hotter than normal after driving and I can freely turn the wheels jacked up.

And these aren't slotted or drilled, just some generic ones installed at Midas that has lasted surprisingly well so far.

The slotted and drilled rotors being noisy theory is bogus. Look at the pic I posted earlier of my new brakes. No noise whatsoever. Not even a squeak.
