View Full Version : Won't start in Park, only Neutral

As the title states, the care does not want to start in Park. Sometimes if I jiggle the shifter it will, but lately only if I put it in Neutral. O well, first thing to break on the car.

I am assuming it is the neutral safety switch. Where is it on our trans? Or is it something else?

Thanks!
Anthony

More than likely its the safety neuteral switch but check the shifter cable if its not going all the way in park engaging the neuteral switch.
either way easy fix.

Got back last Friday at about 0200. 5100 miles in 32 days with 3 kids and a wife in the car. There were days I thought I was the biggest fool! But, it was a great trip.

As for the shifter cable, how do I check that? I am a manual person, this slush box is going to teach me a thing or two ...

I had this same problem whehn I got one of my '95 CVPIs. I replaced the transmission range sensor.

The switch is on the transmission where the linkage connects. You may be able to adjust it. With the trans in N, there are alignment marks on the switch that should be matching up to the marks on the sleeve connecting to the shaft.
