View Full Version : Squeak noise at WOT shift on 1-2-3 shifts?

Well after discussing this with carfixer as well as bad merc, I'm kinda curious as if maybe Im having a gear or tranny issue at hand? I've checked my trans fluid as well as even added i blieve it's called bars lean trans oil additive to see if that would help. Just last 2 days ago my o/d light flashed and cut off. I read the code with my x-cal 3 and the code read tranny slip! Also it's important to note the squeak had only recently appeared on my WOT 2-3 shift but after my lidio tune it is now squeaking on my 1-2 WOT shift! I've been thinking tranny flush, fill with synthetic, filter change as well as Gear oil Change with friction modifer. Any suggestions as to could I possibly have a bigger problem on my hands? Thanks to all in advance...

^^^ The fan belt has nothing to do with the OD light flashing. I think your on the right path, swap the fluids and go from there.

Yep, Marauders are notorious for their electric fans having squeaky fan belts...

Now if you were talking about the serpentine belt 'chirping' on the upshift because it is a non-clutched alternator pulley...

I had a brand new gates serpentine belt put on just 3 months back, not sure if I could have some kind of coolant leak that's leaking onto it as well but will look into all possibilities!

If it is your belt chirping on upshifts, you could try a clutched alternator pulley.
It acts like a bicycle's rear hub...you apply power and rotate it in one direction, but it freewheels if you try to rotate it in the opposite direction.

Dayco "Poly-Cog" is a heavier belt but still designed like the Gatorback!!

I have run both and the Dayco lasts much longer!!:bows:

Yes, sell it!

Then the new owner would have that problem, it wouldn't be solved.

Your solution does not solve the problem. :P

It would if you sell it to someone that knows how to work on a vehicle and has at least BASIC understanding of car maintenance.

I only work on the car when there is a problem. I didn't have a garage to grow old in with daddy nor have I taken any classes. For my lack of experience and the shape my car is in, I'd day I'm doing pretty well.

You can F-off.

Okay I meant the belt, but I said it wrong. There is only one belt.... right? My 68 Cougar has a V type Fan-belt that drives the accessories. My 03 Marauder has a serpentine accessory belt that also drives the Fan. The terms have changed, but I agree with Motorhead, as it does the same functions but differently. Jim Back to the problem. I use the Permatex Belt Dressing on my cars' drive belts. It helps eliminate the squeeking.
