I have had 4.10 gears and a 3000 (i think?, pretty sure) TC installed for quite a while but never have done anything to the stock transmission. Just wondering if i SHOULD do something to prevent eventual ware and/or damage. If so what would be the best options.

Trans temps
1) You can get a pan with a boss for a sensor, get a gauge and mount it run wire etc.

2) You can get a Scan Gauge II (Banner up top) to view trans temps

Jmod:
1) http://www.crownvic.net/tech/4R70Wnotes.pdf
2) http://www.bc-automotive.com has pans, coolers and complete valve body kits.

Again I'd suggest no matter what keep the fluid changed every other year or so and do a pan drop, clean magnet and new paper filter.

^^^what babbage said^^^

Nothing kills a transmission faster than heat. Keep it cool, and keep clean fresh fluid in it, and you should have years of trouble-free use (if you don't abuse it).

Sorry to beat a dead horse. I'm looking into this and wondering about the holes listed as not being drilled:

"• Drill the holes as prescribed in Jerry’s document (Figure 1)
o I drilled mine to the following specs:
o Holes #2, #4, #5, #9, #11 – 7/64 drill bit
o Hole #10 – 3/32 drill bit"

So holes #1, #3, #6, #7 and #8 don't have anything done to them? If so why are they listed on Figure 1 ?

Thanks :D

I bought a kit off a guy named Allen who is very familiar with these transmissions. It came with a pre-drilled plate, springs, accuator and instructions. Took my tranny guy about 15 minutes start to finish and the trans has been flawless after 45K of hard driving.

Ill try to get some info on who this was or contact Darrin for advice and info.

They are illustrated in "Figure 1" because that pic was 'borrowed' from Jerry's article at TCCoA. The note you read from Jerry that was provided in the CVN article was written seperately from the TCCoA article but referenced those same hole numbers. The writer of the article at CVN simply provided a picture that included those holes. It also has many of the other holes that need to be modified on the older plates illustrated as well. For the purpose of the mod in the note from Jerry you would ignore the rest of those holes.

Now, do I do things with some of the other holes on the newer cars? Absolutely. Can you get a good modification by following the simple instructions above? Absolutely.
