i know a few of you are running aftermarket cooling fans, just wondering which ones you are running. only reason i want an aftermarket fan is because the stock one is too damn big and makes it a pain in the ass to work on anything on the front of the motor.

Theres all kinds of fans out there but what do you do with the stock res tanks?

The fan is not too big. It is the size it needs to be to flow the necessary volume of air over the a/c, the trans cooler, the ps cooler and the radiator.

The size of the fan is matched to the fan shroud. Change the fan shroud and you change the volume of air flow.

Removing the front grill and coolant temps drop 20* at low speed and 10* at high speed.

More HP equals more heat.

I think Dave was refering to the fan being to close to the front of the motor making it hard to work on anything there. It would be nice to open up that area.

I run 2 Flex a lites. They have their own shrouds, and work ok. They are only maybe 4 inches thick or something I dunno. Thin enough that I don't even notice them while working in there. I'd like to get the newer ones that they make since they move quite a bit more air

How did you mount your res tanks?

The fan's efficiency to pull or push air through the a/c, trans cooler, p/s cooler and radiator is based on the seal the shroud provides.

Try putting an enormous fan in front of your grill. Put your hand between the fan and the grill to see how much air is flowing and then put your hand behind the radiator to feel how much of that air is flowing past the radiator.

Then put a shroud beween the fan and the a/c creating a seal. The flow of air will dramatically increase. The fan and the shroud are an intregal part change one and you must change the other to maintain the same flow.

Try this take the shroud off, mount the fan to the radiator, drive around at 20 mph with the a/c on when it's over 95* out and watch how quickly your car overheats.

How did you mount your res tanks?

Gotta mod the bracket it sits on then mount it to the header panel.

Dave... Take the fan a radiator and mount it to the trunk like a Baja dune buggy ;D

yes this is what i ment, its a real PITA with a supercharger. n/a it was no problem. i like the look of the stock fan but id rather have the convenience of space to work on things.

for the resivors, i think i could make something work. probably hid the power sterring res up front some where, and make or use a custom coolant res tank.

does anybody know the flow rate of the stock fan?

im looking at a couple on summit around 4600 cfm, does that seem adequate enough?

If you need the room, just do what I did. Go with the Mustang shroud/housing and mount the MM fan & controller to it. It takes a couple of simple brackets to mount it. It's the Vortech method.

good idea, will an 02 v6 mustang fan shroud work?

The fan shroud is from any 99-04 V8 Stang. You will need to make the brackets to mount it though.
