The best thing you can do is give it a good wash with a car soap, then clay bar, polish and then wax.

PM (Paul) Blackened300a since he is in the NY area.

Thank you all for the suggestions thus far, I'll have to see which products are available at my local stores since for some strange reason, there aren't any auto-parts stores located in NYC!

I don't use anything I can't get at Target or Wally World. It may not be the best, but I always know I can get more in a pinch if I need to.

Gilmour foam gun loaded up with Turtle Wax platinum soap. Rinse car, apply soap with gun, wash with sheepskin mitt, rinse off, then rinse again with the Mr. Clean Auto dry. Done.

O.K., I'll jump in. Turtle wax ICE. Someone here recommended it, it is awesome on BLUE. We Mothered the car before Kentucky this year and it didn't have that deep shine like it does with ICE. I re-did her 2 weeks ago and she looks spiffy :2thumbs:

I use Turtle Wax ICE too between clay bar and waxes with Meguiars NXT Tech Wax. It keeps the Bluerauder car show perfect.

But I thought he was interested in cleaning products like car wash.

When the product first came out it was the best wax stripper money could buy. Have they revised the formula?

Is any of this good on a Black car? I'm scared to death to wax this thing. I owned a Black '96 Impala SS a while back and it was a pain to wax. Well the waxing wasnt hard, just the swirl marks it left.

If it left swirl marks then you're not cleaning the car right.

Use a 2 bucket setup.

Also on autogeek.net I HIGHLY recoomend Dodo Juice Purple Haze soft wax, my 08 Taurus had nothing but spiderweb swirl marks all over it, the soft wax really helped clean them up. You can still barely see them in directly light but most of them are gone. Also depending how bad your paint is, have a professional detailer do a paint correction treatment on your car to get rid of the all the swirls so you can basically start with fresh clean paint and keep it that way.

Just remember, wash, clay bar, polish and then wax to get a good smooth shine.

I have had good luck w/ Zaino, a layerable polymer.

Every wax I tried melted on the Black MM.

Unless it gets real dirty, I don't bother with water anymore. I just use the Meguire's Quick Detail. Spray it on a cloth wax applicator, wash an area, and wipe it with an absorbent towel before it dries. As for wax, I use the Meguire's stuff on the metal, and the Ice on the plastic and rubber. When I do use water, I just go to the self serve carwash, fill my bucket with the presoak, wet the car with the presoak, wash from my bucket, and rinse the crap out of it.

I have tried, with great success, a new product manufactured by the company that designed the finishes for the US Olympic bobsled team. This stuff is slick, easy to apply, and remove. You use it on everything; paint, chrome. polished metal, plastic trim, even glass. It is called Geoff Bodine's waxing Frenzy. They maks wash, wax, spray wax, leather/vinyl treatment. Do not know if available in your area. They are on the web. The company is out of Virginia Beach.
