Does nothing for performance, but its recommended with a tune.

It opens up sooner than stock to keep it cooler in the engine.

bocat, remember that the stock thermostat is only 188° so it isn't a huge change. The primary reason for lowering the temp to 180° is to help provide a margin against pre-ignition and detonation. You'll see very little or no improvement in performance just from changing the thermostat.

If your going to do a 180 stat, do colder plugs with the tune also.
