Never had one come on, not good for the pump. I fill up when it drops below 1/2.

Mine came on once. I forgot the miles but the tank took 17 gallons.

Light comes on around 2 gallons left. I always try to fill up before the light even comes on or about 300 miles on my current tank.

This has been documented over the years. The light comes on when there is 3 gallons left in the tank. If you get gas as soon as it comes on it will only take 16 gallons, the total tank capacity is 19 gallons. Multiply your MPG's by 3 gallons and there you go on the mileage you can travel.

Musclemerc is absolutly correct!! However, rhw Ford GPAS (general product acceptance standard) is nominally 2 gallons so the light may come on at less that the full 3 gallons.

I've witnessed this myself. Though the most I've pushed with the light on was 30 miles.

I used to go at least 50 miles, sometimes more. Now that I'm making big power I get much lower fuel economy, so I seldom push it more than 20 miles.

The gear change makes a difference too, going from 3.55s to 4.10s, will drop the amount of miles after the gas light comes on, trust me, I know! I ran out of gas, after coasting through two lights and a mile, fortunately, right across the street from the gas station!

Is that uphill, downhill, against the wind or with 3-350lb passengers? :D Could be two miles!

According to the Interociter you can drive exactly 34.7 miles.

Thanks, didn't even think about a difference with the gears. I suppose I should stick to no more than 20 or so miles when the light comes on.

This assumes that you can drain every drop out of the tank and that ain't gonna happen. I thought that we had already established that about 1.5 gallons are sloshing around in the bottom of the tank when the fuel pickup sees air. So, whatever you figure out on this .... I'd cut it in half and still be sweating til I got to a gas station.
The most that I have ever put in the 19 gallon tank is 17.5 gallons. That low fuel light has only come on twice in the past 6.5 years. I don't like running it that low and usually fill up at 1/4 tank.

I made it 25 miles to work with the light on the whole way. The needle was below the red when I got gas. Think I felt it miss turning in to the station too.
Not sure a tom tom will help you calculate fuel mileage better than a calculator.
Yall guys must like living on the edge, I never let any of my cars drop below 1/4, too expensive for my taste because I don't don't feel like dropping the tank to replace a burned out fuel pump. My 94 Caprice ran dry across the street from a citgo station and it was a pain in the ass to push and the MM is a lil heavier.

My Aviator supposedly calculates the miles left 'til empty. But at a certain point (when it hits the 50 mile point) it beeps and flashes LOW FUEL. Eric's Titan counts down the miles remaining til empty then at about 50 miles flashes GET FUEL NOW!!!!! Like a lot of you said, I assume approx. 3 gallons remaining in the Marauder if the yellow light comes on. It's only happened once and it was 22 miles to the gas station. I called Mr. Man to alert him that he might get a "rescue me' call. Sweated it out, but got there fine. Like to fill it at 1/4 tank or so.

The wife's '06 Freestyle does the same thing. She gets an alert at 50 miles left based on the running MPG calculated by the info center. Then the dayum thing reminds you every 5 miles. It's worth stopping to get gas to shut the thing up. :P
