Well, not to shabby if I say so myself. First pull, by myself. Wife was listening in case I lost a limb or two! :D I'll pull the oil pan tomorrow after work to check the rod bearings. I saw the skies darkening and bagged it all up just before the thunderstorms hit!

Pretty much! Forged cobra sb with race oil pump will be here in two weeks. I have 2-04 Mach 1 heads I've been porting. GT40 fuel pump. I have the infamous fixed NAZ PSRI. All the Mach 1 parts I have only have 30k on them: Heads, COPs, timing chit, valve covers, sensors, etc. When the new engine is in, the giggly shot will go up to 150. :D Thinking I shoulda kept the 39lb Cobra injectors, I'll pick some more up...

are you running it progressive?

RacerX
06-21-2010, 07:16 PM
Interesting. All rod bearings look awesome considering she's got 128k on her. Checked main#2 and she's good. That's all I got to tonight.

Flat tops, cr is going to be around 10.6:1. I have a window switch. Bottle warmer, two 10lb bottles, remote opener. Wideband and some gauges are on their way from a couple svtperformance members. That gauge pod from ntd is going to look good once it's all done.

LANDY

Just reflecting back on what I've noticed with the engine I pulled, #6 exhaust port and valves were coated with oil. No others were. Valve seals/guides or head gasket? I wouldn't think piston rings and lands because the plug had no oil or signs of burning oil. Hmmmm... Anyone have any edumacated guesses?

RacerX

Will a flex shaft hold up to the torque and 20,000 rpm? I got in there all the way anyhoo, just a pain because you can always remove more material. You just can't put back what you took out. ;)

Not for very long, burned about 3 of them out porting a 5.0L EFI intake some time ago. But man, do they ever get down into the hard to reach areas.

Looks great Bill, I'm really psyched for ya. What all are you having done to the "new"
cobra SB? Is is brand new? Great job on the pull. I want to do that some day..

Might as well do a pan drop + Jmod if you have time...

Post some pics of the upper I want to see how it came out.

RacerX
07-20-2010, 09:03 AM
Yup, JMod planned. Did it on my 95 TBird and loved it. SB is a brand new 04 Iron block, Manley flat tops for 10.5:1cr, forged rods, speed pro file fit rings, ARP hardware, Clevite bearings, billet oil pump, forged crank, all balanced of course. About 11 more days until the sb is here! :burnout:

Looking real nice. How long did it take for the port work on the heads ? No flow bench needed obvious improvement.

RacerX
07-20-2010, 10:35 AM
:( Weeks! The beginning is the worst, quite a learning process! Now I know why it costs so much. I didn't think you could get callouses from a die grinder. I work on them between 2 to 3 hours about every other day. I'd rather go back over it a dozen times then take too much out or nick a valve seat. The second head is going a lot faster though.

Allright, now I'm just plain bored! I just polished the upper intake plenum. It was port matched to my 65mm BBK, but, never polished. P&p heads with the valve job, new valves, seals and 98 Cobra cams will be done this week. My new forged SB will be here in days. My exhaust is almost done, just need the shortys (arrive later this week).

Well Bill, she looks great! You should'nt have to grind the knock sensor bosses down since your using the PSRI. I put a call in on the shorty's (left a Msg) they sholud be in hand by mid week. Let me know when your ready for the EGR adaptor.

Ports line up perfect. I actually have a spare set of cam covers that were Ford blue. They were just painted though and in cleaning out the sand (looks like blasting sand) I found that the paint wasn't chemoical resistant. I'm bring those, the coil covers and timing cover to the powder coaters today. Covers GT500 Blue, coil covers chrome and not sure on the timing cover yet. Chrome or black like the block... I'm doing the timing. ;)

Yeah, I need my shortys... :( and the EGR extension! ;)

I'd go silver/chrome on the timing cover - match the coil covers. It's nice to be able to see a leak, a lot harder with the black. I'd get the 3 new gaskets for the timing cover too..

Make sure you get all of the sand out/off the covers. Forget who but someone here got sand into their new engine and it paper-weighted it.

Hey I polished the inside of my intake - pretty easy - now it's "baby butt" smooth. Got most of the casting marks and burrs off like you did.

Might as well get your upper powder coated too... $$$:D

RacerX
08-10-2010, 07:33 AM
Yeah, that was Tom. Any sandblasting remnants will destroy an engine so quick! Any good powder coater should know better. That's common sense to clean the item properly after blasting and then coat it.

What type of short block is that? The pistons look flat which means high compression without a value relief.

RacerX
08-10-2010, 08:14 AM
Brandy new FRPP iron cobra block. Pistons are forged Manley flat tops. Should be about 10.5/10.6:1 cr. I don't need valve reliefs because the new cams are longer duration and not any higher lift than stock. If it was loger duration and higher lift, I'd have reliefs, like Brian Castro's.

ImpalaSlayer
08-10-2010, 01:37 PM
yeah those pistons are def different then OEM cobra pistons.
