I didn't want to hijack the alternator thread, so I decided to start my own.
fastblackmerc graciously provided me a link to DB electrical, which was listing some sweet alternators & starters.
Regarding starters-
http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-995-new-starter-mercury-marauder-46l-2003-2004-3267-sfd0028.aspx
In this link, it lists the MY '96 - '05 for CV/MGM.
The block is a '95 MarkVIII, and it lists the MY '97-'98 for MarkVIII.
Does anyone know of any reason why it wouldn't fit a '94 MarkVIII block, or a '93 MGM?
IOW - is there some difference between the older blocks and the newer blocks that would require a different starter?
Maybe 2-bolt vs. 3-bolt? The flexplates look to be the same diameter, is there a voltage difference, etc.?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Your best bet would be to call or email DB Electrical.

the early 4.6L starter motors had a different solenoid trigger connection setup than the later ones. the starter nose that mounts into the transmission is the same.
in the crownvic, the new style solenoid trigger connection was introduced in the 1996 model year. some other ford vehicles introduced this setup a year or two later.

Thanks 2vmodular, should I stick with the older-style setup, or does it even really matter?

you do not want the old setup, it causes periodic no-crank issues. here's a link to some more info on this topic:
