Darrin,
I'd like to take a moment for a public display of thanks. You took my call while you were at dinner. You listened to my CHEVY transmission problem and gave me some great food for thought. I thank you. Truly.

I ended up experimenting and reading and chased it down to a line pressure issue. It seems after 'warming up' I didn't have enough line pressure to hold 3rd and soon after was slipping in 1 and 2 as well. Why?

It's a mud truck. I dropped the pan and found me a bowl full of sludge. The sludge was having time to get into suspension and clog the filter, thus starving the pump and causing a line pressure drop. My daughter Jamie and I, cleaned out the pan, and installed a new filter. We also punched and tapped the pan to make it drain-able for maintenance. Filled her full of Castrol DEX III trans fluid and away we went.

It shifts crisply through all 4 gears and doesn't seem to have line pressure problems any more. Just for good measure, we drained the pan once more to get more if any remaining fine sludge out (because now it's in suspension from driving). Refilled with DEX III and some Lucas trans fluid.

I was afraid this trans fix would cost me more than I paid for the truck. Thanks to your willingness to help and a point in a good direction, the fix was under $50 and an afternoon with my daughter.

Darrin. You da man. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Rich

Congrats on an easy fix Rich. It's awesome that you were able to pinpoint and tackle it without too much hassle. There isn't any credit due to me on that. You are actually the one that figured and sorted it out and got the bonus of some great father daughter time. Sometimes it's not a bad thing for something to go 'wrong' if you know what I mean. You never know what hidden benefits there may be.

Also, thanks for the kind words. They mean a lot. More than you know probably. Owning your own business has it's ups and downs and people like you taking a moment to do things like this are a HUGE part of what makes it all worthwhile. Particularly when all I feel like I did was take a call and talk for a couple of minutes.

So, in my opinion the thanks actually goes all to you :)

Take care.
Darrin

Rich, nice story. Great job! I know how valuable time with Jamie is. I miss it. Really pleased that you have found your Mud Truck. I know that will lead to even more father-daughter time 4 wheeling on your property. I think Jamie had a birthday this month. Give her my best, please. See you in the fall. Dennis:)
