I installed Powerslot rotors and ProACT Akebono pads around 6 months ago. I have read great things about the Hawk HPS pads and want to change over but keep running these same rotors.

I've always read about issues with changing to new pads on existing rotors---it's much more difficult to bed them in properly and this creates faster wear. Is this an old wives tale, or should i think twice about changing the pads only?

Most people will tell you you must resurface the rotors before installing new pads in most cases that is true. I have found that if the rotors are not out of round have no hard spots they should be fine. I would take 140 grit sand paper scuff each surface side spray down with brake cleaner. Then proceed with installation of rotors & new pads. Don't forget to lube the slides & caliper mount bolts. Do a thorough job of bleeding the lines. You will also find the Hawk HPS pads take some time to bed in.

Go easy on the new pads til they form themselves to the existing rotors.

Rough up the rotors and install the pads, everything will be fine. Maybe take your test drive on out to Studio 54 and pick up Mr. Man, he's been stuck there since '78. :)

Hey it's hard to bring down a building with a sledge hammer. I finally finished and then I was off to the 'garbage inferno' to melt down all those disco records, also threw in some chow-chow albums. Disco sucks and the Disco Destroyers work continues. Going to be in the Chicago area as I here there is a Mercury Marauder there that needs some sledge attention to its audio area.:D:P

If you have no pulsations when braking then installing just pads should be fine as long as you understand you may get an occasional squeak and squeal here and there. Don NOT scuff the rotors with sand paper, you may end up doing more bad them good.
