my car seems to randomly overheat when the car is idling. it has never done this before with the oem pulleys/waterpump/180 t-stat and ive drivin the car over 1000 KM with this setup and the engine temp is fine until i stop and let the engine idle. the thermostat is opening and the fan turns on when it should so i think its either the underdrives or i have an air lock in the system. does anyone know what belt to get to fit the stock waterpump pully with the steeda balancer? The steeda Waterpump looks cheap

I'm willing to bet it's not the pullys. Steeda makes some of the best pullys on the market. Put in a new t-stat and stat O-ring and follow the correct burp procedure.

This has been happening to me too. Twice now. Soon as I turn heat or AC on and give it 2-3k rpms for a few seconds the engine cools very rapidly.

Thanks Dave, using these steps I did my burp once and was done. There is alot of info and idea's on burping but this one has the correct info. ;)

Ya thanks a bunch travis, i think you just solved my problem. Im gonna give that procedure a try tomorrow. I did nothing near that way when i installed my pump and stat. i broke off my 1/4" extension in the crossover cap so i said **** it and took off the hose to the right of it and filled it that way LOL:P. sucks now because im gonna have to mangle the cap off with vise grips and my torch:mad:. I think im still gonna buy the belt and go back to my stock waterpump pully, it just looks so much better like it belongs on the motor and doesn't have a slight wobble to it like the steeda does. I dont like the idea that the waterpump gets underdrivin twice while everything else gets underdrivin once:shake:

i bet steeda does this so people are more willing to buy the pullys because you dont have to go out and buy another belt;)

Do Not use a torch the cap has a rubber gasket inside it. Follow the instructions and use vise grips to break the seal.
Good Luck.

Filling the system isn't rocket science. Do like they said with the funnel, allways keep it half full and run the car for an hour. Squeeze, sgueeze, cap. DONE. I've never had one yet leave here overheating.

Turning on the AC starts the electriic fan motor drawing air through the radiator. Maybe that's all you needed.
I also had some overheating issues yesterday - while highway driving temp gauge was at midpoint as normal. Pull off highway onto city streets and the temp started climbing a little and AC was noticeably not a cool. Then AC blew hot at stop sign.
I pulled into a gas station and coolant is full but fan wasnt running. Fuse 102 was good. I switched the pcm (202) relay with the traction control relay (known good relay) and the fan then worked. Switched them back and fan worked again.
Hellifiknow why engine fan wasn't working before, but I had cool AC and normal temp gauge the rest of the way home.
I'll probably get a spare relay and replacing the one - are these expensive? I never had to replace a relay before.
Also been thinking about changing out the thermostat to 180 degree unit anyhow... is this a good idea?

I had my engine fan die on me, it was the module on the fan itself that went bad. The fan and the module are one piece and quite costly $400-500 range.

Car is overheating again. Doesn't appear to be the relay - prolly going to have to get a new fan assembly.
Is there a check to test fan operation after the relay and fuze are both tested as good?

remove your electric fan and back wash the rad with a garden hose, probably plugged. also maybe your water pump is worn out, when you rev the engine you spin the pump faster to get some flow, we dont have clutch fans so I cant see any other reasons when you rev up the engine the engine cools off.
