So my A/C is still out due to a lack of funds to repair and this is beyond my abitilies to do. The comressor is siezed but the pully still turns however the compressor is getting very noisy and I am worried about doing more damage while I gather funds for the repair. here is my thought and question for you all, Why not use a smaller serpentine belt that will exlude the compressor? That is effectively delete it without removing it. Does anyone know if any of the Ford belts will work? (Did the Cobras come without A/C?)
You can buy this:

...but you could put the 50 bucks toward your AC repair, so it doesnt make sense.

Use a small piece of cord and wrap it in the direction the belt needs to go deleting the A/C compressor mark the cord and measure it this may give you a lenth in inches of the belt you need. just a suggestion

That wont work, based on the tensioner design.

It may be a trial and error fit situation. Most well stocked auto parts stores should have a variety of belt lengths. They are marketed by Gates, among others. Good luck.

Do your self a favor and be careful I had this issue just last week and the outcome was not cheap.

That kit requires removing the A/C unit which I do not want to do, just want to go around it for now hence a different belt.

I did this, that is I installed the A/C delete pulley. I did not want to drive the car for fear of doing more damage, the compessor would get really hot and very noisy so i stopped driving it. The pulley made good sense for cash as I don't have any to spare right now. Removing the compessor was easier than I expected and the install simple. We live at 4000 ft so I can go without A/C for a little while. On the road again.

Is the clutch working? If so just turn the a/c off.

I'd have just gotten a junkyard compressor and swapped it out.

Even off the comperssor made lots of noise and became very hot and yes the clutch pulley was spinning.

That is not out of the qestion. When first looking at it the removal of the comperssor it looks very intimidating. With my back to the wall and very little cash I had to give it a good. First I tried removing the inner fender well, that was real easy, then I tried to lossen the bolts holding the comperssor on, when I realized I could get to all three without futher disassembly (such as removing the front axle and yes when looking at it I first thought that was the only way to get at it) I went for it. I am no slouch, I do alot of my own work but nothing to heavy and I do not like getting in over my head and not understanding a problem or a solution. So I was pleasently surprised when it truned out to be rather easy. I think I will go looking for a junkyard compressor.

I'm confused, I don't know what your talking about. Removing the inner fender well? Removing the front axles? None of that has anything to do with the AC compressor. The thing just unbolts... Take off the compressor, release the existing 134A freon, install another compressor with new O rings and retainer springs, put on a new accumulator, vacum it down and recharge..... DONE!

Removing the inner fender well took all of 5 minutes and afforded me more room to work, a good view of what needed to be done since I had never worked on a marauder A/C unit before and an added bonus of light since my drop light is packed away somewhere from the move.
