GRRRR. No i was having a friend change my oil before I left work. He decided to do it with a floor jack and jack stands instead of the lift. Floor jack got stuck and didn't roll with the car and it slipped off the floor jack. and smooshed the front section of the oil pan and pulled the power steering line out. Its not hitting the crank or journals etc. just smooshed. Just my luck...:alone:

Does your friend work on cars often?

You should use the factory lifting points.

Knock wood, I've never had a vehicle slip off a floor jack.

I know right. But it happened. I should have made him use the lift. Too late now.

if you get under the car, the number is actually easy to read on the forward side of the pan on the mounting flange

Call your insurance company. Should be covered.........unless you don't have full coverage. It WAS an accident after all!

Might be easier to drop the cross member with the suspension than pull the motor.

Of course, I've never done that before.... :D

I know that you can unbolt the motor mounts and lift the motor slightly on a SOHC to change the pan, I would certainly try that before I pulled the motor, then I'd kill my "friend".

Not if you unbolt the motor from the mounts and suspend it.

Either way you will end up using an engine hoist so just get it up enough to get under and replace the pan.

There is a cross brace you can buy or rent that expands out to the width of the engine compartment and is held up by the lips on the inside of the fenders.

You can then hang a chain from it and use bolts on the motor to supend it while droping the lower cross member.

We use these to hold up front wheel drive engines and tranny's when we have to drop out the lower cross member.
