:bows:..........BOSS 429 Cougar* and 427 SOHC Comet!!!.........:bows:

*one of 2 built!

"It's a Merc you jerk!"

When I first took my Marauder drag racing in the Spring of '03 the track announcer kept saying: "That's a nice looking Cadillac!"
After my second run I got tired of the knucklehead and I painted "MERC" in huge letters with shoe polish on the Marauder's glass.
Next run the track announcer said: "That's a clean black....uhhhh.....Mercury!"

Probably wouldn't want to tell Fast Eddie that in person. He was known to bust a head or 2.

Animal Jim was my hero back in my Fairmont..err, I mean, Mercury Zephyr days.

Somewhere between 1992 and 1998 I owned 4 of those things.. in a row. Not too many people will fess up to that except me and the Animal.

That Fairmont/Zephyr (FOX) chassis was actually touted as a good drag racing platform if a suitable engine was swapped. A friend built two such Fairmonts, one is powered by a BOSS 429, and the other with a SOHC 427.

Pictures please!

We had a 1978 Ford Fairmont with the straight six/auto.
Car ran like a watch!...a slow watch.
It was very light..almost a tin can.
My brother got it as a hand-me-down college car and I lent him my '85 GT take-off rims with Goodyear Gatorbacks.
That car would take highway entrance ramps at 70 mph without any tire howl!
Many a sports car get left on those tight corners....:D

Animal Jim was the original owner of a 1963 Monterey with a 427. Check him out in his early days http://homepages.wmich.edu/~dillery/3W51R535844.html

Cool gallery! Thanks for posting that. Mercury Cyclone FTW BTW.
I used to go out with a girl that drove a green Fairmont wagon. She hated it, but I liked it. I sometimes wonder whatever happened to that car...

I saw this car at the Carlisle show and started to seriously think about buying it....It was in great condition plus it was $1,200 obo!

:hmmm:...Drop in that new 340HP 5.0 crate motor for around $3,400, add a few tried and true 5.0 mods* and you've got a killer sleeper!

"Dude! My Honda V-Tec just got walked by a gold 4 door Fairmont!"

* I've got tons of 5.0 stuff in the basement...heh heh heh....:D

Joe, I'm pretty sure I can get some pictures of those awesome Fairmonts, but it might take me a while to set up and do it. (I'm pretty sure the owner will let me post up a few pictures.) Both cars were the subject of magazine articles when they were first built quite a few years ago.

Wow! I haven't seen a 4-door for quite some time. I see the 2 doors more frequently, in fact, I saw one today in the Wallyworld lot!
