Difference between sanding an striping?

I took my car back to the shop that painted my roof an they gotta repaint it cause the clearcoat wasn't put on right I guess....but I asked him how much he would charge to repaint my trunk...the trunk just got a lot of surface scratches from alley cats jumping on my car..he said he would sand it down an repaint it for 200 or strip it down an repaint it for 500...what's the difference between sanding an striping couldn't u sand it down to the metal to

sanding it down would take a lot longer then stripping it down. using paint stripper is a mess but takes ALL the paint off evenly leaving you with bare metal. he was probably going to just wet sand it down and re clear it would be my guess.

The trunk ain't bubbling up an rusting like the roof was an I don't think it will so I might jump on that an see what happens

Like ImpalaSlayer said stripping is faster and gives you a totaly clean surface to start with and no chance that something left over from the factory can mess up the new work your paying for or comming through.

The only thing I wish I had done when I had the trunk lid repainted to fix the FU carving in it I should have had the spoiler blended into the trunk lid to make it look like it is actualy part of the car not an add on. It also would have stoped the constant water drips from comming out of it while preping for the shows & cruises.

The drips come out of the trunk lid if you have a spoiler or not.
