Front Door Armrests.....GRRRRR!!!

Both of my front armrests are pulling away from the door panel at the bottom!!!:mad2::argue:

Armrests are not available separate....only the entire door pane and only a few left!!:shake: About $800.00 for the pair......:eek:

Anyone having the same luck??:confused:

Gonna try gluing them back....stay tuned!!:cool:

Keep us posted Jack, I also have the same issue on both cars. I can handle the cost of some good glue but not $1600.00 in door panels.

I'm finding out they ALL do this in time especially in HOT climates!!:argue:

I used some LOCTITE Plastic Epoxy I got from Wally-World and it appears to be working.....still curing!! :beer: BTW, the Epoxy sets in 7 minutes (full cure in 24 hours) so you have to have everything ready......I used some REAL sticky tape to hold them in place for 30 minutes or so......lighter fluid cleanup, then masking tape for the duration!!:banana:

It looks like the molded vinyl armrest has a lip that catches under the hard plastic support that is then therma-welded to the door panel. As the vinyl shrinks it just unsnaps and pulls away from the support so I decided to try the Plastic Epoxy on the lip in hopes it will stay attached to the hard plastic support......so far it is looking good!!:D

Stay tuned....I'll probably reinstall the door panels tomorrow AM if they still look good??:cool:

When I designed my left door supplemental arm rest, I had installation problems--finally settled on using wide industrial grade Velcro to hold the assembly. the rest includes the "pull" recess and all closing forces were absorbed by the attachment--I just passed 50,000 plus miles since installation and the tape is still holding--don't know if it will work in this situation, but it might be worth a try. It is an easy and inexpensive fix with the epoxy but you have to take care not to get it on the outside surfaces!!!:argue: I used masking tape to protect the outside area....

Simply clean the mating surfaces with lighter fluid.......also remove all Armorall or protectant from the outside with lighter fluid so tape will stick (it will look bad but Armorall will bring it back) to hold it in place while the epoxy cures.

Now mix the epoxy and apply it liberally to the white plastic base edge and tuck the vinyl armrest lip back to where it should be!! Now apply tape to hold it in place and allow the epoxy to cure....VOILA....FIXED!!:beer: :bows:

I hope it hold and it looks like it will!!:beer:

Actually the hardest part is removing the door panels......

Today was 101* and I'd guess 120* in the car and so far...so good!!:beer:

I'll report back in a few days but I think the epoxy is aggressive enough to hang in there!!:bows:

Exactly--+1 above..........the only add on I had to do was screw screws into the top each end to hold it in place cause the tapes kept coming off--no more now---its truely the ticket to solve all your problems.........
