Newbie ere!

Purchased a 04 MM DTR 300A several months ago. Been reading a lot here. Really purchased the car for newer model car and low miles. Own a 2000 Grand Marquis with 116K. Found out MM is a different breed and a special car. Want to keep it stock but want it to be at its top perfomance. Notice when accelerate hard it surges like maybe tires are slipping or maybe something else, or normal, not sure. Car has 38K and knowledge of car from dealer was traded by an elderly man who traded the MM on a Rousch.

Any thoughts about best performance with stock equipment? Not planning on racing or dogging. Just a nice looking car for trips that runs great.

I assume that acceleration surge that you are talking about is the "off the line" performance. In stock trim, the MM is sluggish from a standing stop. This is pretty typical of a stock model weighing nearly 4,200 pounds. Once the car hits 25-30 MPH, it starts to pull hard and fly. You can get better off the line performance with a custom tune and 4.10 gears. Many here have gone that route.

Welcome to the site. You have an '04 DTR, 300A's were early '03's. The sluggishness is because it's a DTR. It is well known they are the slowest of all the MM colors.:D:lol:

A tune, CAI, will help with the flat acceleration and 4:10's will make that even better. :)
