View Full Version : "PATS" or "PCM" problem ?
Ok last saturday I started my car, backed out of the garage & it dies,
& when I turn the key to run the "check eng" light flashes rapidly along with the anti theft light on top of the dash, the car will crank yet will not start,
had a Friend that is a Ford Tech stop by tonight & we were able to eliminate several things, we could not get the "ford" IDS laptop to connect with the PCM, we could not get my SCT tuner to connect, all it would say is " invalid market" however we would pull the "PATS" fuse under the dash or pull the PCM diode under the hood and the dash lights would function normaly again,
any ideas? do I need a new PCM, BCM or some part of the PATS system?

You don't have a chip by chance do ya?
no chip just the stock Trilogy tune

Just curious, my Trilogy tune is on a chip and the duct tape loosened up one me one night three times causing exactly what your describing. Figured worth a shot to ask ya.

^Trilogy comes with a chip, right? I had moisture cause some corrosion on chip contacts that connected to the PCM driving me batty before. Cleaned them off and re-installed with dielectric grease. Prob solved. Maybe even pull the battery offline for a bit. Sounds PATS related, but, that could be an effect of problems with PCM.
early versions of the Trilogy kits used a chip, later kits use an sct tuner to reflash the stock PCM
I have had no problems since the install a few years ago---now this ????

Have you tried to restart in neutral?

Did you pull the battery cable for a bit? Any other "chipped" keys for your MM you can try?
have done all the above, even disconected the BAP swapped battery,
has to be PCM or PATS related, i think the PATS is stopping the fuel pump

Have you changed anything lately? You know what, you can't communicate with the PCM through the ODBII. It's your computer. Fot the hell of it, I'd leave the battery off until tomorrow morning. Can't hurt. Doesn't sound good though.
added headers, 5 months & 3500 miles ago, have not been retuned for the headers yet so i have been taking it easy, (no wide open throttle blast or anything)
p.s. It even passed WI state emmissions last month:)
checked all wires, nothing burned or touching headers.

It sounds like you have a PCM issue. Made sure that none of the wiring is shorted. Double check that all of your wire bundles are in good shape under the hood. Make sure that none of it has been melted by the exhaust. Also check the wiring which crosses from the drivers side to the passenger side by the firewall. The flexible EGR tube runs through there. I've had some bad luck with this myself.

well 7 hr.s of expensive shop time & the problem was solved, the EEC relay wire's go from the relay on the pass. side all the way over behind the drive side headlight to a factory splice. One of the wires (at the splice) got wet some how & corrosion set in, so the EEC was not turning on.
