This is the only way I can describe what my MM is doing.

When I push the brakes hard the pedal goes down and has a crunching/grinding sound.

Booster? Thats what I'm leaning towards. Are they MM specific?

Mine is doing the same thing. Its kinda like air in the booster, but the car stops fine. I guess it stops fine cause its been that way for the 6 months that I've owned it, so I don't know any different.

Maybe the bushings need some lubrication?

Exactly!

Which bushings are you referring to?

The ones that the brake pedal rotate on, under the dash.

It's the boot on the plunger that goes into the booster....Ford had problems with this in CV's for years....only real fix is to cut the boot off or replace the booster!!!:argue:

You can try to lube it inside and it will be quiet for awhile??

I cut the boot off of one of my CV's with no apparent ill effects......my Marauder hasn't done it....YET!!:shake:

Yeah I had the creeking pedal as well. Like Marauderjack said cut the boot. I just loosened it up a little with a exacto knife and the noise was history

How about just lubing the shaft that goes thru the boot?

I know.... I know.....

Lubing the shaft!!!

That's what she said!

Why waste money on lube when you can just use spit :dunno:

I will try lubing the shaft. hahaha Thanks guys. I'll report back!

i took pictures of a spare power brake booster & pedal box that were used in the 2003-2004 marauders. maybe these will give you some troubleshooting ideas.

This is exactly what mine has been doing for a while.

Couldn't find the right word to describe it until I saw this thread.

"Crunching" is a great description.

So,... would it be the boot, bushing(s) or both

My brake pedal also has quite a bit of travel in it.

Mike.

sounds like you've got two seperate problems. the pedal box and power brake booster aren't going to cause low brake pedal issues.

i'd try installing new brake pads on all 4 wheels and seeing if your brake pedal feel improves. if not, then try installing a new master cylinder. marauder owners are having these leak around the cup seals internally at really low mileage.

here's a recent thread about master cylinder problems:

The ones that the brake pedal rotate on, under the dash.

Bingo! Same thing here. I had it in the Ford garage and that's what they found. Unfortunately, the lubing does not last long. It is quite annoying.

you'll get a minimal amount of lubricant inside the pivot shaft by spraying it externally. for a long lasting repair, you'd probably want to pull the pedal box out of the car and disassemble the shaft. this does not look like a fun job with the big spring there on the shaft.

there are more pictures of the pedal box used in the 2003-2004 marauders on this webpage:

http://www.p71interceptor.com/powerpedals/

the 03-04 marauders use the same pedal box & booster that the 2001-2002 crownvic/grandmarq/towncar with adjustable pedals did.
