A local Philadelphia area LM dealer's radio ad says, "Come see the new 300 horsepower Grand Marquis". So I called the dealer and mentioned the ad and asked, "Don't you mean the 302 horsepower Marauder?" Their reply? "Yes, we really meant the Marauder, but we in the car business consider the Grand Marquis and the Marauder to be the same car".

I just ask people with that attitude (My dealer) "Are the Crown Vic and the CVPI the same car?"
Are the Chevy Avalanche and the Caddy SRV (?) the same truck?
No, you haven't heard it all until you've heard Marty in court...:shake:

The 2004 MM even has it's own code.
"We in the car business" is a real condescending remark. Do they want to be smug, or sell cars?
The dummies. Who wants a 302 HP Grand Marquis, with a bench seat and all that cladding?

Even Mercury think's they sold you a Grand Marquis? When I sent back my Mercury survey I told them I was insulted. They must have sent me the wrong survey,?I bought a $34,000 Marauder, not a $24,000 Grand Marquis!

Another salesmen at the L/M dealership told me the Marauder's a little to harsh of a ride for most people that's why it doe'snt sell? First I just looked at him and smiled I knew he just would'nt get it!
I WANTED TO SAY "ISN'T THAT THE POINT!"

I guess that IS a reasonable solution in this scenario....
Better yet, post the dealers name, and allow the good folks to give 'em a call, kinda like the dealer that tried to sell that blue MM as a "one of a kind...".
I remember by the time I called, they had been inundated with sooo many calls from MM owners, they were embarassed, apologized, and withdrew their offer at ebay.
So come on...POST THEIR NAME!!! I need to place an order....yeah, an order, that's the ticket:P

We in the Marauder business know in our hearts what the difference is! One of the service writers at my dealership still calls it a Grand Marquis. I usually tell him it's the Grandest of the Marquis.

Well, here we are again...Right? What do you enjoy?
Do you want to own an automobile that still inspires lust years down the road? "WTF is it" attention? Or, do you want to see one or two other MMs in traffic at the next stop light?
My first SUV was the first year of Mountaineers, a lot like my first Marauder. The '97 title was released in May of '96, and back then, people still glanced twice. It was a very dressy Explorer, the first 5.0 engine and the first AWD drive train from FMC, until the '98 Explorer. I drive a 5.0 AWD Mountaineer SE today, and I am one of a million SUVs in traffic.
So...What do y'all want? Y'all want to be one in a million, or one of a million?
Had the MM advertising been better, LM could have sold all of it's projected 18K Marauders in it's first year, and outsold the Hummer of the same model year. Seen any Hummers in traffic lately?
Accepting that LM promotions were weak in '03 (and don't look any stronger for '04), I suppose there are less than 10K Marauders on the pavement as you read this.
I like being rare. I enjoy the "WTF is it?" looks. And, I enjoy "where the fu*ck did he go" head scratching.
What do you enjoy?

CRUZTAKER,
Perhaps we should ALL visit that Dealer's website and schedule test drives for the 300 HP Marquis...sorta, kinda, maybe ???
I'm sure the "we in the car business" members at that dealer would be elated that their radio message was so effective.
Afterall, Philadelphia is the cradle of "car business"...or is it cream cheese...hmmm ?

I agree mac. But I don't want there to suddenly be a bunch of 300HP Grand Marquis at every light either ;)
I agree that I like being a part of a rather "elite" group like we are here. However, even if LM sold all of its projected 18,000 MM's, or twice that many, that's still a relatively small number of cars to be spread out across the entire country, and we would still be a rather elite group.
The thing that concerns me is that with so few MM's out there, even our own dealers don't know anything about this fine car, as many of us can attest. This lack of familiarity and knowledge leads dealers to do stupid, even dangerous things to our cars when they wouldn't do the same things to better selling, more familiar cars. Also, the fewer MM's out there on the road, the sooner FoMoCo may stop producing replacement parts.

Ladies and gents I think most of the MMs have veen sold in the Detroit area. There are 4 others in my neighborhood alone that I know of. I see at least on or two everytime I leave the house, yet I still get the WTF is its or better yet how is it to drive, is it fast and get to eat ricers and such everyday! I like the rarity of it unless I'm in a hurry and someone wants a long detailed description. I'm wondering how many of these cars I should have gotten the commission on... ; )

Well, the L/M dealer in Shreveport, LA has been running a successful ad for many weeks. The first vehicle featured has a picture of the MM. The ad States: "Marauder--Mercury's Muscle Car $5,000.00 off MSRP." They sold three the week I purchased mine--one black and two DTR. Just received a Silver in stock. They also told me that they purchased a MM at the Dallas auction and it sold within a week. Some dealers do know how to sell them. Shame that most don't.

If the MM is a Grand Marquis ---- it is one with an attitude!
I was tossed back and forth between the GM and the MM when I got my 04MM.
Now , all the zillions of GM's on the road look sooo boring!

They'll call it a Marquis but not a Crown Vic? I think some of the dealers are confusing "My rose can kick your ass" with "A rose by any other name is just as sweet." Ya know what I mean? Some advertising...do they wanna sell somethin or what!?

Is this true? If so... any ideas how to get that changed on the titles----who can get that done and how?
Maybe a little persuading is in oeder--....like maybe something taken from a cleaver movie remark.......this is a Mercury Marauder, the most powerful 4 dr. car on the market...it can blow the doors right off anything it gets close to---your in for a shave if you can't change some spelling errors...and each shave is scarier than the previous...so what'll it be ......
I just read my title and it doesn't refer to either MM or GM. All is says is Merc.

My dealer got the plates in today, so I went down and picked them up. I could tell most of the sales staff missed her by the way they all got excited and said "THE MARAUDER's BACK!". They might not know as many details about her as we do, but they know she's special. (At least my dealer does) ;)
