View Full Version : Fender removal?

I damaged my drivers fender right near the side lamp. Is there a way to remove the stuff to get to the metal to knock it out or does the fender have to be removed? If so where are all of the bolts to remove the fender?

It's a very small dent that might be able to be popped out, but I am not sure. It's about the size of a nickel.

BTW I am aware that to knock a dent out that it cannot be with a normal hammer. It requires multiple tools. So if you going to mention that please save it.

Any helpful advice is appreciated.

Thank you.

P.S. Don't say take it to a professional or bodyshop. If you know of a tool to remove little dents the size of coins let me know that. I remember there was a "pops-a-dent" tool out a few years ago, but I think that required you gluing the suction cup to the car and scratched it up when you tried to get the glue off.

At great personal risk, I suggest that you take it to a professional. Even if the dent is not accessible from the back it sounds like a fairly cheap fix. Check with a paint or detail shop, they usually have a dent removal guy that visits on a regular basis. You have neither the skills or tools to do it yourself. Being a tool is not the same as having a tool. If this is the same fender that is starting to rust don't waste the money to remove the dent.

I know you said you didn't want people to tell you to take it to a professional, but in MA there are a few guys that come out and pop the dent or ding and charge you and they don't even take the fender off! I say call one of these guys in your area. Will save you time!

Hit it with a ball-peen hammer.

Yes, You have to unbolt "the stuff" to remove it.

If so where are all of the bolts to remove the fender?

They are along the edge of the fender....they usually have a hex head.

I don't know what being a tool is like, but I lack the tool for sure.

The truck has the rust, but if you remember where I said the Marauder looked like it was starting to bubble... that's another fender.

I'll find out how much that "pops-a-dent" tool is, but from the sounds of it it's a cheap fix.

If you all want to laugh the car was damaged when I dropped a dill pickle jar on it. I tripped and the cap of the jar hit the car (along with the whole jar) before it hit the ground. The pickles were fine and the jar didn't even break!

Use the jar of pickles, just hit the same spot from the other side. (that's what she said!) Because from the sounds of it, that is one bad-ass jar of freakin pickles if it didn't even break.

Must've been Claussen pickles...they keep them refridgerated, so they are crisper.

Your FLAPS should have a tool for small dent removal. It looks like a suction cup. You stick it to the dent, and pull it out. Pretty simple in theory, but I've only been able to make it work on maybe 1 in 10 dents. Cost about $5, so it's worth a shot before you go to the pros. The guy you're looking for will do what they call "Paintless Dent Repair." Or, since your Dad owns the car and the insurance policy, just have him fix it.

$500 deductable won't help us here.

I guess for $5 it's worth a shot, but from the sounds of it I doubt that tool will work. :(

I'll post pics maybe!

Did the metal crease at all? That is the big question.

Should pop out fairly easily then. Either try the popper, or call a professional to come out and pop it. These guys have impressed me with getting dents out! You wouldn't even know there was a dent AT ALL!

My MM came with a dent on the rear passenger door right on the bend in the metal just below the window. A couple years ago I took it in and had it fixed for $100. It was done so well I can't even tell where it was anymore. I know you seem to want to do it yourself, but it can't hurt to find a reliable local body shop and get a quote.

I just don't like anyone ever touching the car, ever. If they do I better be there with them.

I know the feeling. I'm always nervous about leaving my car at a shop when there's work needed I can't do. And I NEVER let anyone drive it unless I have no choice i the matter.

Dom, Be smart and spend the $100 and have a 'Dent Doctor' fix your fender.
I too, won't leave my car at a repair shop. These guys can usually fix the dent while you wait.
I had a dent on my right front fender fixed by one of these shops and you cannot tell where the dent was.

The dent doctors are cheap by you guys. I had a tiny ding on my fender, and 2 dents on my trunk lid and they wanted $275 to remove them.

They usually are @ $100 per dent and then offer a discount if you have a number of dents to work on.
(That's driving your car to their shop.)
So your $275 isn't out of line expense wise.
Also, They might hit you with a higher charge if the dent is a major PITA to access for repair.

Our PDr comes to our shop and works magic. Thankfully, he is nowhere near as expensive as you guys are quoting.

Did anyone ever hear what it cost Alarmguy to get his car repaired after that major hailstorm that his car got caught in at work?
