Well in almost seven years of owning this vehicle, The first comment I ever heard, that was not like ,...,"What's that?" or,.. "AW, KOOL!" , was last evening at the local cruise night.
It was Chevy nite / Corvette nite last night.
I parked between new and old drop tops .
A white late 70's with red guts and a new yellow/black cabriolet
A Lady Mid Fiftys, with a Fella abour her age and a 1o-12 year old girl come strolling by and the lady said after they pass by the fastest car in the row, " Why would someone bring a crummy ol' family car here?".
I thought on that and did feel a little bad for a few seconds
, till I realized, that It may be a crummy ole family car to her but it is not that to me! :P
I had a vision of pulling my car out of it's slot into the row,..& Pull a Brake :lol:stand till no one could see!

She was probably dragged there by her husband...
I would have said "Excuse me miss, but pick a car at this show and my car will beat it" Then I would smack her in the face.:D
Wonder if it was the same old lady who walked up to me in a shopping mall parking lot and asked me in a not so friendly tone "Why do people fix up old cop cars?" I said "How the Hell should I know, if I see one I'll ask."
P.S., this was in 2005, car wasn't even 3 years old!

Probably out of curiosity. Many car shows and cruise-ins that I have attended are held in or sponsored by restaurants or shopping centers with large parking lots. People who just happen by for other reasons see the cars and just pop in to "check it out". Nothing wrong with that.
Personally I think that it really offers an opportunity to educate folks about the car. Sometimes a good showboard or display helps with that. You won't convert everyone to being a car guy; but they will at least understand the passion that is involved when they depart.
Understand your initial reaction to the comment Bradley. I kinda felt the same way when I overheard a "What's so special about this car?" question from a couple who were just passing through. I gave them a full 10-minute pitch on the MM with every detail I could think of. Don't think that they will ever make an off-the-cuff comment again unless they have time on their hands.

I prefer to accept the comments of car guys, not some dumb broad who knows nothing about cars except shiney paint and wheels.

I had a similar experience once at Cecil County dragway in Md, a dude with a 90s camaro said " Do you really think your family sedan is fast? Those things are pointless to own, you should get a real muscle car"
this was before I even had a chance to run.....
Moral of the story
13.9 is enough to beat a "Real Muscle Car" from the 90s

Plus after running 13.9 you drove home with class and comfort, not some rattle box heap of crap.

And if they don't say anything, that sorry shake of the head and roll of the eyes says it even louder! LOL I usually come flying out from behind the car where I have been sitting unseen by the morons, and shout "It's a Marauder....that's what's so special!!!!!!!!" then proceed to school 'em.:coolman: Eric just smiles at my outrage. I think he gets a kick out of watching me get up in peoples faces over my car's honor!:D A show board will be very important to tell the Marauder story. I plan to get one ASAP! ( Before I go off and belt some smug little know nothing!) LOL

I've put mine in a few, but I've always had a copy of my certificate from Ford framed and propped up under the hood, in front of the fan. That seems to keep back a lot of the ignorant comments.

I'm picky about what shows to attend. If I see that it is mainly true old school metal, then I pass. Nothing but new STOCK mustangs and camaros I'm game!

The only thing at car shows are Mustangs, Mopars, and Camaros.
That's why I don't go to car shows.

To the cop car comment I respond with...."The Law wishes they could catch me" to the family car statement I respond with"That's right, I can haul a family anywhere in 13 seconds, wanna see?"

Tonight at the strip some guys came up to me asking which police department I represent and it was cool the police were coming out to support the drags. I just let it go and popped the hood. DOHC heads tend to shut people up.

Why educate them, as I like having a "sleeper" car.
I was hot rodding and when the cop came out, he looked both ways and continued on.
With my Bright Red Harley, the cops would regularly follow me even though I had been following every law.

I get those comments all the time. Some people either know exactly what the MM is and drool over it, or they think it's an old cop car. I'll take those that are lucky for a quick ride. I'll smoke the crap out of the tires and put it sideways. That usually puts things in perspective.

Because things that are "sparklely" hold people's attention. :D

On of my co-workers during "bring your classic car to work day" parked his 1984 ugly, old, dirty, rusted out Mercedes diesel filled with McDonald's and Dun-kin Donuts trash bags next to the NHTHAWK; propped open the hood and started the engine running it off a bottle of Wesson oil. He had the crowd the entire show hanging around his car ignoring all the other awesome cars there. Go figure..

See I told you guys, some people just aren't car people. Theres no way I would have let that conversation end that easily. How can you mistake a nice clean marauder for an fixed up old cop car? Cops drive Ford crown vics. Marauders are Mercurys. How do they know its not a new cop car? They don't stop production of the panther platform until 2011. If I was there with you at the time CBT I would have gave that lady two big thumbs way way down.

The jacked up part? IT WAS IN 2004.
