Hey guys,

I already did a ton of forum searching, and both tools to find tires for the marauder link to broken websites.

I am currently using Falken Ziex STZ-01 255/55/18 in the rear and stock BFG's in the front. The Falkens are about 2 years old now with about 25,000 miles on them and they are in need of replacement (much of the middle of the tread is worn, although tire inflation was always a constant 33-35psi)

Anyway, I want to know exactly WHAT sizes will FIT the stock rear rims and not cause any issues with the staggering + traction control. So far I know about:

1. 245/55/18 (stock)
2. 255/55/18 (currently using these)
3. 265/50/18

What other sizes will work?

Ok next up, I've found that the Grabber's in 255/55/18 are cheap, but I can't find them anywhere except for online - shipping costs are KILLER and it can take up to 2 weeks to get these. So I resorted back to falken STZ-01 and can't find any places selling these locally either. Basically I'm stuck with expensive shipping, long shipping times, and no guarantees.

I really just want 2 proper z-rated and good quality rear tires, mounted and balanced, by this friday, for around $350 or less. Any suggestions? Oh yeah I also live in the south florida area...if that helps.

p.s. I've called the following places already:

Tires Plus, Tire Kingdom, Sears Auto, Gemini/Goodyear, Firestone, and Palm Beach Tire. All of these places have $200 or more for each tire + another $50-$60 for mounting an balancing + 6.5% sales tax.

Thanks guys, any help is greatly appreciated.

The only 295 fits is a Hancook. All other 295's state a 9 inch rim minimum.

265/50/18. They fit. My Nitto 555's are ordered, but IIRC, price was closer to 400. Other than the Nitto's there are several tire choices in that size.

My info on the 295 comes from a thread I started specifally about the Nitto 555.

Try TireRack. They are some sort of a sponsor here. I have ordered from them a few times and they are quick to deliver. You can also compare this tire to that tire if you want. Link is from the MM.net Home page:)

I'm running General Grabber UHP 255/55/18's on the back and have been very pleased with them.

Got them through Discount Tire, recommend them if you have one in your area.

Try East Coast Tire.

Check this out: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=64931

OEMs need to be run at 40psi to get the best tire wear. I suspect that your current tires needed the same by the wear you are seeing.

I said I'd never buy OEMs again, but $240 shipped is a great deal.

Adam/Cleveland turned me on to 285/55/18's, I just put a set of Pirelli's on last month, looks nice. Speedometer is slow about 1 mph at 70 mph.

Hey there...thanks so much for all the replies.

First off, East Coast Tire is the most expensive (with shipping included) out of all the major sites. I found some 255/55/18s on there and shipping was $80!! The total price was $3xx. Anyway, tire rack has some Pirelli PZero Rosso's for $122 each and $36 shipping for both tires for a total of $277.

I thought about ordering these, as they ship out from the georgia location and should arrive within 3 days. However, I am skeptical about the tire as it got mediocre ratings both for treadlife and drive quality.

I wanted the grabbers, but they are on "backorder" which totally kills me as I can NOT wait several weeks, I need them by no later than this friday.

Lastly, discounttiredirect has literally nothing "z" rated in the 255/55/18 range for less than $195 each. That is way too expensive for rear tires on my car which will inevitably be worn out in a few months anyway.

I really loved the Falken Ziex STZ-01's...nice Z-rated tire with great treadlife, good looks, and great performance....cheap to boot...but OF COURSE they would be discontinued...that's freaking beautiful huh?

So I'm still wondering...what other tire sizes work besides stock and 255/55/18? I heard one of you say 285/50/18...but I couldn't find anything with that size on the major sites.

A lot of us have gone Nitto 420s on the rear as daily drivers.
They are a bit wider, and slightly taller...but perform really well, look very cool, and at $128 each from discout tire...you can't beat 'em.

Good traction up to 500 hp as well.

But yes, 285/50/18's work. Have ratcheted 10k+ on my Continentals and have not seen any noticeable wear.

I just bought 2 of the 255/55/18 Nitto 420S from discount tire for $260 shipped.

They will be here on thursday. Thanks a lot for the recommendation guys, I really appreciate it.

Next question I have is $25 installed (mounted/balanced) per tire the average price? That's what I've been paying for a while now.

Make sure you have them mount them correctly, one side should say Mount Outside or something like that.

My 285/50/18's have about 15,000, and still look new, these Continentals are discontinued though.

Price is good if they are road force balancing.
Otherwise, $25 a wheel is steep IMO.

You will like these tires. Can't be beat for versatility vs price.
Let the folks with big pockets buy those soft high performance tires that won't last.:P

Do any of you gents know a good installer for tires in the south florida (preferably palm beach county) area?

I usually just go to Palm Beach Tire in lantana off i-95...
