View Full Version : O Ring issue?

Just tonight I got in my car fired it up and had the A/C on Auto. When the air came though it just came from the windsheild defrost vents. I was thinking it was a common issue that had been discussed before on here and it's the O Rings. I played with the A/C head unit, pushed vent and still no change. I kept it on though and when I hit a bump the A/C started coming out of the vent again and did all the way back home, which was another 15 miles with no issues.

I am going to take it out tonight and check for a lose connection or something. Maybe dust got in the electronics of the A/C head unit. There was no difference in the air coming out from sitting to accelerating. When it came back to the proper vents it stayed. When it was just coming from defrost it stayed there, no change in flow of the air or where it come out of until I hit a bump. BTW it wasn't a hard bump at all.

I have a 3,000+ mile trip coming up in two days and I'd like to have climate control. What do you guys think the issue is?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I took off the a/c head unit, dusted it off and put it back in. Now the air will only come out of the defrost. I can still adjust the speed of the fan though. When I I had to replace the A/C head unit last time I couldn't adjust anything, the unit had no reaction to the buttons. Like I said now it's only on defrost, but I can still adjust the fan speed. Where are the O-rings? I did a search, but I need pictures.

EDIT AGAIN: After reading the sticky it sounds like the o-rings are my issue. Now I need to know where to get good quality ones? Can I go to an Autopart store or must I get a set from Ford?

Ford doesn't have them, neither does any FLAPS. You have to get them from McMaster Carr.

Everything you need to know is in the sticky.
