Going to install my Meizer Electric water pump this weekend. I searched thru the forums and I didn't see any posts about previous installs. I know it's a simple swap, but wanted to know where you connected the pump and if you used a relay or not.
Sell it. Thats my strong recommendation. They fail and do nothing for the car unless you go to the track often and want to have the best E.T possible.
If you insist, wire it exactly how the trilogy manual says to wire the IC pump.

Thanks for your input.
I got it for a steal so why not use it.

I dont like putting the fate of my engine in a electric motor. Ill stick with my EMP pump.

At least install an LED so that you know if it's running or not. They are good for 5000 hours? Perhaps an hour meter?
When you go WOT the alternator shuts off - so you might need more juice to run it. you got the optima which doesn't have the same CCA or reserve that a motorcraft 850 has..
Post some pics or dyno after you are done.

:agree:
Had one fail on my vic! :mad2:
They are crap!
If you really want to upgrade your pump you should look into the stewart emp water pump.

.
Just because a pump stops working does not mean it will blow the fuse and kill the LED.

I'm seriously reconsidering installing the pump now.

Sell it and do something much better with your money.
Even the EMP is a total waste of money.

Your car will thank you for it!

How do you figure? Meziere makes some of the best waterpumps out there. Just because it's not endorsed by the mighty Zack doesn't mean it will fail on you. It's better by leaps and bounds than your stock waterpump. And unless you are WOT 100% of the time I don't think you have to worry about the alternator.

It is not just Zack's recommendation, there have been a number of failures since this part became available.

I have an EMP and datalogged before and after..... It works better than the stock unit and thats a fact. I got mine on the cheap and did'nt choose it for HP gains. I used it because the impeller design was superior than the stock unit.

I've had my Meziere on for 5 years now.
No problems except for the one that I created when I first wired it in.
Shortly after I installed it, I had faulty/loose wiring connections, that would cause it to intermittently and infrequently stop running.
I always watch my gauges and luckily caught it each time.
The one time that I didn't see my water temp. gauge immediately, the car ran like it was in mud and had no power....(EEC was pulling loads of timing), I figured out what was happening in about 30 seconds and shut down the engine.
I took a look at all the wiring and found the problem at the relay connection....fixed!

True, but if you can monitor WT like some do (SGII) if you see the LED is out and the WT is rapidly climbing....
EMP pump is easily better than stock.

IIRC you installed a lower temp T-STAT AT THE SAME TIME YOU INSTALLED the EMP. Be honest!

I have the Optima and it has more CCA than the motorcraft stock battery. Also found that out here in the desert it holds up well, temps out here well exceed 140+ in the engine compartment and the gel cell tends not to boil.;)

Wow, 140* I guess the opposite applies here where it goes to -25*F air temp in the winter.
No problems with mine. More flow, especially at high rpms when the stocker is cavitating. Plus you can leave it running.
So where have all the failures been reported?

You are correct. I did a 180* stat, EMP pump, and a cooling mod all at the same time, I still think the EMP has a far better empeller design.
Just my opinion, thats all. ;)

Huh?

Well, after searching the internet for problems relating to the Meizer electric water pump, and not finding much, I went ahead and installed the Meizer pump. I've put over 300 miles on it already and no problems.
A picture of the finished product.
