A few days ago I noticed that when i would lock my doors the horn sounded very low like it would sound if the battery was dying. I know for sure the battery is good and everything else is fine. Today while sitting at a green light for about 10 seconds i try to blow my horn at the teen in front of me on the phone and no horn. When i got home i popped the hood nothing is loose or unplugged by the horn no longer sounds when i lock the doors and there is no sound when i push the horn on the steering wheel. ANY IDEAS?

Fuse, connection or the horn itself.

Car Electrical 101

Disconnect the connection at the horn, connect a test light to the connection and see if the test light lights up when you blow the horn, if it lights the horn is bad, no light the fuse is blown or there is a break in the wire somewhere.

If I remember correctly, there are actually 2 horns on the Marauder (high and low pitch/ tone) and if the low pitch horn dies, it won't allow the power to get to the high pitched horn.

Back in 2005, my low pitched horn actually failed. I think it could have been because water getting inside of it while washing the car.

Anyway, if the problem is not the fuse, I would try replacing the actual horn.

Worked for me.

I had this happen on my old 03 Crown VIc and it was the relay in the box in front of the battery have someone in the car prssing the horn button and tap the relay box and see if she honks.

Same here. Horn can be bought in O'Reilly's and swapped in minutes.

My Mom is a polite driver and almost never used the horn on her '95 Grand Marquis.
Whenever my brother or I would drive the car, the need to blow the horn would, of course, present itself immediately.
Unfortunately the horn would barely work and sounded awful.
It was like the horn was trying to clear its' throat!
After a few minutes of driving in Beltway traffic my brother or I would have the horn all cleaned out and functioning properly again.
I likened it to the old "Blowing out the carbon" on your parent's never WOT'ed cars!....:2thumbs:
Don't know if it was built up moisture, or the horn's metal diaphragm had started to rust from inactivity...:dunno:

Moral of the story is: Use them regularly!

BTW: That reminds me....I need to get a bumper sticker made that says:

"HONK if you don't like Loud, Obnoxious noises!"

Get that fixed ASAP, it's more important than you might think. I had to go flying into the refuge lane one day because some woman decided to try to change lanes right into me. I could have avoided that if my horn had been working at the time. Plus, it's really annoying to not be able honk at people who are in need of a bit of "driver education".

I have been putting this off for a while, but I am finally going to fix it. I have to figured out which horn needs to be replaced. The horn sounds like a horn that would be in a a Mazada miata or something small, I think that it maybe only the high that is working. They both are only like $12 bucks so I may just go ahead and replace them both.

Do you have power to both horns?

If you don't, replacing them won't fix the problem.

I had exactly this problem - one blown horn possibly because of spraying water up under the grill. Only one would sound. Replaced the horns.

Common Panther platform problem, had issues with all 4 of my previous ones.

#1 RUSTY connection/ Ground

Even worse when they switched to a ground wire vs grounding to the crossmember bar. Actually had to make a new ground wire for my 01 as the stock wire had corroded all inside the wire jacket. Ground wires love beaconing a sacrificial anode. Similar problems with the Ford Hood lights too, the ground wire rots away.

#2 HORN FAILURE

Had to replace both horns on my 01 after fixing the ground wire. MUCH better sound afterward.

Im not sure if im getting power to both but only 1 is working and it sounds very gay when i use it. It sounds like a party horn. Thats why i think the low pitch horn maybe dead.

LMAO!......

Horn sounds like this: "Heyyyy sailor!"

(as they said on Seinfeld:
".....not that there is anything wrong with that.")

You're not going to find a true train horn but there are some compact air horns made by Wolo that you should be able to find a location for. They are pretty loud, I've put them in a couple Freightliners that came with 1 wimpy little car style horn.

I will look for them on ebay.
