View Full Version : Seat cleaner to beat all seat cleaners!

I think, IIRC, it was Swordfish that mentioned this the last time cleaningour car seats came up. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Back then I figured what the heck I'll try it. I got a box of 4, put it with all my other cleaning stuff, and pretty much forgot about them until earlier today. I was looking for something to PM Russ about and saw them and figured I'd try them out since I'm cleaning the car for my vacay to TN and Chicago (STARTING TUESDAY!!). Holeeeeeeeeey cheese on a cracker do those magic erasers work. I mean they really live up to the title, Magic. I thought my seats were fairly darn clean before, I was wrong wrong wrong. In terms of bang for the buck, this has to be hands down the biggest gain you will ever see, lol. And yes it crossed my mind to jam one down the gas hole to see if it would make the car go faster, but then I realized it was probably heat stroke setting in from cutting the lawn this morning so I didn't do it. There were a couple dirt areas on the seats that in the past were harder to get off than an Amish gals prom dress...woops, smock. Prom smock. Anyway, I started out doing half the front drivers seat, going vertically (up and down, guspech) and one side was sparkly and the other side was brown. Well, I'm not down with brown (seats) so I cleaned it the rest of the way, man what a difference! I never realized the Mercury Man logo was just dirty, not worn down like I thought. I think he is actually smiling now. Make sure you get the 4-pack box, 1 barely does a whole seat, and keep a clean rag handy to wipe up/dry off the area you clean. You should see the dirt pour out of the eraser when you go to rinse it out, sheesh! My seats are light flint, but I would imagine they would work on the dark ones, too. It WILL turn the eraser filthy, so you will be able to tell you are picking up all them farts that have been stuck in there since 2003-2004. Hmmm, Rex you better get a 12 pack of them. :D

Might have to pick some up. Do you have a light flint interior? Was vertically more satifying that horizontally?

Funny I bought some earlier in the year with good intensions of cleaning my light flint seats. But I have been too busy and just dont feel like it right now. I hope it works as good as I have heard.

Heres Casey's after picture. You can see he is sooo happy and giddy about getting rid of the man DNA off his seats.

Proof is in the pic! You'll have to trust me. And it took all four of the erasers to do the front and back seats. Dark Charcoal folks may want to do a test spot first, I don't think there will be an issue, but you never know. It says on the box it is even safe to clean leather shoes, but not high gloss finishes like paint.

Yes, you should see the dirt pour out when you rinse tham after a couple minutes of scrubbing. Have a dry cloth or two handy to wipe up as you go.

I thought the Magic Erasers were somewhat abrasive and I would worry that they might tend to show marks on a dark charcoal interior more?

Any experience with the Magic Erasers on the dark charcoal interior?

I just did and it definitely got a lot of grunge off, but the flip side is that it really dries out the leather so you'll have to go over it with leather wipes anyway
