I just bought my 2000 Qvale Mangusta. It is #113 of about 280 ever made/sold world wide... I can't wait to run it up at the Pocono International raceway this fall... It really is an awesome vehicle... It handles & carves curves like no other...
Now I just need to get it tuned... however in the distant future I see a supercharger... perhaps 10-12 lbs of boost...

Just feels like it missing power below 3K rpm's... I guess I'm spoiled with the marauder & the JT-trim installed on it...

See my photo bucket link below for a couple photos of it...

Yes I will have it at Carisle next year... I promise everyone that...

Straight From WIKI:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qvale_Mangusta

The Qvale Mangusta is a sports car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car) produced in limited numbers (about 280 in total) in Italy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy) and finished in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) by the automaker Qvale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qvale) between 2000 and 2002. The original MSRP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suggested_retail_price) was $ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollar)84,500.
Contents

Origin
The design for the Mangusta was derived from that for the De Tomaso (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Tomaso) Biguà, which was styled by Carlo Gaino of Synthesis Design and first unveiled at the 1996 Geneva Motor Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Motor_Show). De Tomaso ultimately sold the production rights for the design to Qvale, who sold the vast majority of the cars in the United States. Following the end of Mangusta production, the rights were sold again to the MG Rover Group (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_Rover_Group), where the platform was used for the MG XPower SV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_XPower_SV). The Mangusta's name is borrowed from the De Tomaso Mangusta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Tomaso_Mangusta).

Design
The Mangusta uses a unique roof mechanism referred to as the "Rototop". It features a center removable panel (similar to normal targa configurations) but also allows the rear section to electrically rotate (on a forward pivot) out of sight into a cavity behind the seats. This transforms the car into a full convertible.
The highly rigid box-steel frame was designed by former-F1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One) designer Enrique Scalabroni and produced by Vaccari & Bosi, while the body is made of a composite material. The long wheelbase allowed the engine to be positioned almost completely aft of the front axle to achieve perfect front/rear weight distribution.

Most are selling right now for about $25-$40K...
But I got this one from a government auction... I think it was IRS related... so I got it for a steal... :banana2: a couple thousands... more or less... It was in San Fransisco, title transfer, Shipping etc...

I don't think anyone else bid on it... prob cuz they didn't know what it was... & the way the auction worked was with NO RESERVE... government just wants to get something for it...
I iknow of the car because I own a Detomaso Pantera 71-74... The car Detomaso made right after the original Mangusta 68-70... I was hoping Detomaso was gonna make a "new" Pantera with the 5.4L but they got into $ difficulties & sold out...
But the original 68-70 Detomaso Mangusta used a Boss 302
and the original 71-74 Detomaso Pantera used a Boss 351C
so you can see how many Pantera owners expected Detomaso to make the Mangusta w/ 4.6L DOHC & then a Pentera w/ a 5.4L DOHC a few years later... Perhaps even a supercharged 5.4l Much like the new Ford GT.

So... what does everyone think...? I really am thinking about putting a supercharge on it eventually... Perhaps a Kenny Bell 2.8H Mammoth. This car uses the same 99-04 svt cobra motor. SO its all Aluminum but has factory forged internals... I have ran it at RPM many times now... The Rev limiter comes in a 7000rpm. It pull hard all the way to 7K rpm too.

IIRC it uses an 01 Cobra engine, which has JUNK pistons, JUNK rods but the good crank.

No way JOSE. 03 Cobra is the only one that got all the good stuff.

I think an homemade Eaton kit would look perfect on it.

Neat car!

I'm not sure if I am a big fan of the styling though. The angular rear wheel opening are very Italian looking though. They look very similar to a number of Lamborghini models. The interior is deffinately amazing though.

Probably the first thing I'd do is install some custom, one-off cams (with a different firing order if possible) and an open exhaust to really make it sound Italian too. Throw in a set of Weber Carbs and you'll really have an exotic! Beyond that I'd look for knock-off style wire wheels or maybe some old Countach wheels.

apparently Sean Hyland has supercharged about 3 of these for the factory to sell in Italy... I spoke with him yesterday & he said he used an S-trim Vortec centrifugal...
Although I was thinking about a nice Kenne Bell twin screw... Although I do agree an Eaton setup would be the best bang for the buck... A nice ported eaton or something...

Ya the interior is all high quality leather... I think they killed about 5 Italian cows to wrap the interior... It's nice...

How does everyone honestly feel about a supercharged engine Sean Hyland build back in 2000-01? He said he no longer has any info on the supercharger kit or the engine...

Their is 1 of his engines with the kit installed on sitting in San Fransisco at the Qvale warehouse. The Vice President said they would sell it for $5000. When I spoke to both I was able to gather that the stock crank was used but the pistons & rods were most likely changed out for Manley forged. Because that's what Sean was using back then... It's still the all aluminium Cobra motor... And has the only example of how a centrifical intake setup w/ intercooler would be routed on this car... I don't think there is an instruction manual of any sort... and there is no one near me that can make mandrel bent intake tubing...

opinions/thoughts?

Sean Hyland and reliability never went well in the same sentence...just ask the entire internet.

Do an eaton swap, it will take up the least amount of room in the engine bay.

Ya that was my understanding as well... I guess do an Eaton swap onto this "Cobra" motor will be less complex then the Marauder Eaton swap... Intake already comes from the drivers side etc...

Whats the hardest part of the swap... Just so I have a brief Idea what I may be getting myself into...

There is nothing hard about it...just unbolting and bolting parts together.

You have a 675rwhp Marauder, I hightly doubt it will be difficult for you.
