I noticed I am getting some seepage in the nosecone area near the u-joint.
Probably a seal? Not much leakage, but I don't tolerate any leaks!
Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

Has the seal ever been replaced like when doing new gears? Might of gotten an off-brand seal and it's on its way out now.

Jim,
Can I assume you are referring to the slip yoke that inserts into the tranny?
If so, seal could be wearing out on you?
How many miles on the clock?
Mike.

The title of the post says.... differential....
I say pinion seal.

easy, remove driveshaft, use impact remove pinion nut, note the washers (if there are any) then pull off the yoke use a screwdriver or seal remover pry out old seal dont usually have to put in a new crush sleeve in for the first time being removed. tap in new seal place yoke back on in the same position impact on nut (dont over do it) done. should also use some locktight o the driveshaft bolts.

Hey Jim
Think about a higher speed shaft from Dennis. Shaft wobble at high speeds will cause such a leak.

before you remove the pinion nut make sure to get a in/lb torque wrench and note the pinion bearing preload. when you reinstall the pinion nut you will want the same preload as before.

I had a rear differential leak, and had it re-sealed. Leak cam back about a month later and turned out the cover was warped. Got it fixed at a machine shop and she is now right as rain

Thanks Rich, probably the result of spirited driving at Sebring and Gainesville road racing, and a "few" runs at Gainesville during MVIV....:D
Only 42K on the clock though, and very few miles in the last year or so.

Pinion seal is probably the culprit. Just replaced the one in my 04 GM at 131k miles. Easy enough to do once you get under the car.

I own an 03 marauder. dealer noticed a leak at what they called the rear differential. said there was an eencieweencie puddle when they jacked the car up. they wanted 170 to replace it.
Also, i have steeringwheel wobble at 65+ mph. not sure if related...

no, the pinion is in the rear and the steering wheels are up front. either worn out tires, a wheel weight fell off or you have a bad tie rod ends.

mine is leaking slightly the same way. i pulled the fill plug out of the pumpkin to fill it and more oil actually came out. its deffintly not a big leak, dosnt even drip.

That's a good thing actually. Too much fluid will find a way out. You only want a max of 3 quarts. Car should be on level ground or level rack when filling.
