After not having moved an inch in 28 years, my old man finally cleaned up his garage and rolled out his 1955 Mercury Montclair. If he decides to fix it up, it's going to take some TLC, but I'm in it for the long haul.

Regardless of whether he finally decides to restore it or not, I think it's cool that he still has the first car he held a title for and made possible a picture of two Mercurys owned in our family maufactured 48 years apart.

Before it rolled out of the garage this weekend, it sat there since 1982. Before that, it sat in another garage since about 1970. This weekend, it got rained on for the first time in about 40 years. The rain rinsed off the dirt and filth and revealed a few touches of rust, but the body looks good overall. I'm hoping we have it rolling down the road under its own power before we carve any pumpkins. The godsheads in the wheels and in the backseat (maybe more pictures later) are still shiny as they were decades ago. I hope my godsheads look that good in 2051 :cool4:

Very cool! It looks rather solid, actually...

I may not speak for the masses here (but I think I do)...please post more pictures with progress if it is possible/convenient for you.

Hell, I'd like to see the car after it was washed by the rain.

Those are great cars, the 55 looked fantastic. Hopefully a little cleanup and maintenance will do it and the more original you keep it the better in my opinion.

What engine is in it? The Ford 272 family or the L/M 368?
