A while back I replaced my headlight shells with new OEM units. When I did, I replaced the bulbs with HID Xenon bulbs by Sylvania. They put out the white light. I swear the headlights now put out even less light to the road than the standard bulbs. They are aimed correctly. Any suggestions OTHER than going with a new high discharge system?

I had bad luck with the higher output bulbs (Same brand) , they melted the sockets where the bulb plugs in.
I was working at the Ford/Mercury dealer so it only cost the deductible for new pigtail sockets and stocker bulbs and of course diag & labor.:)
But when do you ever listen to me?:flamer:
Maybe you have been getting a hold of yourself tooo much

I never knew Sylvania made simulated HID Xenon bulbs.

These are the bulbs that Sylvania makes for headlights. Most people upgrade to the regular Silverstarts (not Ultras). I've had both and personally I think the regular Silverstars are better.

Check your plugs and hope they aren't melted any and double check the brand and wattage of the bulbs.

Agreed. Have regular SilverStars in The Blackbird and Ultras in Phoebe. The regulars are better.

Test the voltage at the socket I bet it isn't what it should be. I think it should be 6 volts maybe someone can chime in. Many grand marquis & crown vic owners installed a relay inline to fix the problem. Not getting enough voltage to illuminate the bulbs to their brightest is acommon problem other members just went to HIDs.

+1!!

Do a search, there is a mod to upgrade the wiring and add a relay.
