View Full Version : Ford Steps up to the plate...

I got good news today... I sent my car in last month to get the paint checked out as it has a bunch of solvent pops and base/clear cracks in a number of places over the majority of the surfaces on the car.
Comparing my paint to the paints on CRC's car (My old one), it was plain as day just how much better the paint on my first car was... I complained, and John Eagle spent a week wetsanding and doing what they could.
Ultimately, the defects were too much to wet sand out, so the next step was to get the regional Ford folks involved to see what Corporate was prepared to do.
I'm happy to report that they authorized a complete repaint of the entire car today. Even better, I didn't even have to yell at anyone or get riled up, I simply grease marked all the marks on the car prior to dropping it off, and got a call saying a complete repaint had been authorized.
It's times like these that reaffirm why I've driven Fords pretty much exclusively since I could drive and why I'll continue to do so. :D
I've been thinking about the new paint scheme and have decided I'm just going to pay for a big 'ol bag of pearl to drop into the clear coat to give it a little extra pimpin' factor.
Very cool. Supercharger and brand new custom paint, all within 30 days. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! It's good to be me, even if I am rude, a liar and a pimp.

Logan, my car has those little tiny holes or cracks all over the hood, roof and trunk lid. They appear to look like little tiny off-white spots, but when you magnify they look like the paint burst right off. The dealer offered to paint car no hassles, I dont have problem on the sides. Otherwise my paint job is beautiful, do you think I should have the whole car painted ???

Logan, congradulations, and i'm glad that Ford stepped up to the plate! I have pretty much driven Ford products all of my life as well, and I wish they would find where in the hell my car went as it's still lost. Are you trying to go for the metallic black look? Those are so neat if you want to drop some chrome flakes into it as well while you are at it!

good deal Logan...I got the same response from my dealer...already showed my service guy my paint and he said no problemo...just find a good shop and have it fixed however it needed it...waiting until after winter to have it addressed...

Smokie, that's exactly my problem. If you look close, you'll find some on the tops of your doors, quarters and fenders I'm sure.
Yes, get a full repaint, they'd never match the paint properly and they know it. Generally a repaint is ten times better than factory paint anyway.

Logan thanks for responding, I guess what really scares me is; will they shoot the car properly or do a sloppy prep and make my car look like a used car. That is what is holding me up.:alone:

Fortunately, I don't have that concern, I'm personal buds with the General manager of the dealership body shop...
Anyone within driving distance of Atlanta...come to Team Ford and I'll hook you up with a guy who knows how to lay paint. If you need paint done...we've got your place...and they can match the factory job PERFECTLY.

Logan you are fortunate to have a friend there, I do have a good relationship with my paint advisor he took me in the shop and showed me the downdraft paint booth, and by coincidence there was a black Expedition that had two fenders repainted, the color match was good, the flow and reflection was inferior to my paint job, making this decision is giving an ulcer, I really love this car.

Congratulations, I worked with Ford many times to get customer cars repainted. Ford usually balked, and rightfully so, because many just wanted a new paint job so they could sell the car. Also, many would brag to everyone how the 'made' Ford repaint the car and that they'd never buy another Ford. I remember the first customer that I went to bat for. He admitted that he would sell the car ASAP after the paint was dry. Also, he told me that he'd never, ever forgive Ford for the crappy paint job and the crappy way they had treated him. I told him that we'd never, ever repaint his car as long as he had that attitude. The car was about 4 years old and out of warranty. I asked what other problems he'd had with the Tarus. NONE was his reply. I told him that Ford really wanted to repaint his car but because they had repainted cars before and still had unhappy customers that they would not repaint his. I told him: agree to keep the car for at least 6 months after being repainted and agree to tell everyone the following: "Ford finally did the right thing and repainted my car." Guess what? He refused. This told me it was more about ego and pride than getting his car repainted. I told him to think about it and talk it over with his wife. A few weeks later he called me and admitted that the problem had bothered him way too much and he thanked me for bringing it to his attention. Got him to come in and talk to the Ford rep, he signed the agreement, and I called him about a year later and he was still driving the Tarus because our body shop did an excellent job.

Logan i am Not 100% convinced on that a repaint in my oppion it the best way to go. But your ride you got to do what makes you happy i would live with the defects if they were not to bad. It really hurts the car in the long run value wise and prying and pulling all the trim off think about around all the window seals all of that should come off every bit! bumpers removed ect: on and on it is a big task to do a proper job on a basiley new MM is not a way i would suggest but good luck on it and stay on them!!!
