Every now and then I will get in my car to find the rear map light has turned itself on. If you tilt them at all, they come on, and the switch seems really flakey and they have the annoying habit of turning themselves on. Anybody else experience this? Maybe just remove the bulbs? It's not like I ever use them for anything.

I didn't even know we had rear map lites until Mike Poore was riding in the back in Indy and turned them on to read something. I'm not even sure if I've ever even sat in the backseat.

I don't think I ever turned them on in the 5 yrs of owning my car. If they are that sensitive then pulling the bulb will be the solution besides replacing the unit.

I have always thought that my autistic grandson turned them on, sometimes I don't notice it for days, maybe they come on, when driving rough roads.

There are contacts inside that may require cleaning.

Mine happens occasionally. Those rear overhead lights are very sensitive. The detent to keep it in the "off" position is really weak and it doesn't take too much to shift them into the "on" position. The one on the driver's side seems more sensitive to me. I hardly ever have anyone in the back seat.

Weird. Mine in the ON position only come on when the door is open or I turn on the interior lights. I make sure mine are in the ON position because of my windows being tinted and if I were pulled over at night time I flip all the interior lights so the officer can feel a little more as ease.

Yeah, that's what's weird. It's always the drivers side, never the passenger side. My theory is that the way they are wired puts more "stress" (meaning the wires bunch up and push back) on the driver side.

MINE DO THE SAME THING!! And sometimes it hard to get them to stay off, I think I might just remove the bulbs
