Looks like they're getting geared up for anticipated rejection of the Taurus PI.

The Chrysler guys are probably dancing a jig to celebrate Ford giving them the police market by dropping the CV.

Your right--I can't see the city PD's using this crossover as much as the State HP's....where they use mostly GM Tahoes now---

Why couldn't Ford just put a EcoBoost V6 in the CV and call it a day? smh

I've asked that too... Our dept is getting our last shipment of CV's in to replace our aging fleet. THe admin folks are planning on buying the Carbon motors car, I'll beleive that when I see it.

A FWD car is just not going to take the abuse a rear drive car does. You can't ask one set of wheels to do double duty without compromise. I remember when Mythbusters tried the myth that you could pull rear end out from underneath a car with a chain. They used a 99 CV and ended up cutting the control arms almost clean through and couldn't get the rear end to come out from under the car!

I had thought that Ford was headed in a great new direction. Its why I bought shares. The complete idiocy of this move, however, makes me question just how clued in these guys really are.
There is no way in heck that these fwd/awd vehicles are going to stand up like the CV. I watched one of those cop shows where the CV was used to spin out a 5 ton cabover cube van. Did it with no effort at all and the CV was still ready for action afterward. I just can't imagine these little unibody cars handling the same situation.
And, like the rest of you, it simply boggles the mind that they feel two entirely new platforms would be easier, cheaper, more popular than repowering the existing CV.
What, exactly, does Ford think is wrong with a CV when they already own the police market?

There is nothing wrong with the CV, Ford knows it, as do you and I. The CV will not meet the 2013 crash standards(roll over, side impact, etc.) that are set in place. Ford could not see putting money into a platform that has been around since late 78'.

I got that tidbit straight from Ford engineers last week at Police Fleet Expo. They know that they are going to take a hit on sales, one guy hinted that there still may be a RWD car in the future. It didn't sound promising though.

Also, Ford is doing away with the full size E series vans in 2013, all they will sell is that imported ity bity thing. I bet contractors will be happy with that. Not to mention, we use full size vans to transport prisoners and for roadside cleanup details. I guess we can just chain them together and walk them to prison.:D

I agree Ford just shot themselves in the foot. My local PD has been buying Dodges and has been satisfied with them. All Ford needed to do was put a better engine selection in the Panther and they could have sold 80k worth of those things for another decade. FWD/AWD is junk in heavy service applications and no PD is going to wait on parts from Australia so these sales will mostly go to Dodge I bet.

Back when Dodge and Chevy quit making RWD cars, Ford was home free. Now the tables turned and Ford is going to make the same mistake. Ford will come back with an inferior car like the others ones did.

Ford should have continuously updated the panthers instead of letting them die on the vine.
The lack of updates and the lack of adding technology is what killed the panther.
When I was at STAP, I was told that each unit makes $4-5,000 a car. The Town Car makes $8-9,000.

the new taurus might hold up ok, I know my buddy beats up his little escape offroad pretty hard and he has not had any problems in the two years he's had it. front wheel drive cars have gotten alot better in the past 10 years, I guess we will just have to wait and see.
