I said I would do a writeup with pics so here we are.

Factory PCV sucks oil from the head into the intake. Note the clean spot on the dirty upper on the right (Seafoam) Most of you likely have dirtier uppers than pictured on right. :blah:

Introducing the MuscleMerc (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/member.php?u=2458) catchcan. Notice it is made from high quality parts. Best of all it works at keeping oil out!

He sent me the kit with well written directions and good mounting hardware. It mounts neatly in the fender well, just drill 2 small holes. 2 washers, locknut and nut for each connection.

Ok, here is the whole catchcan picture. Note this is my old upper intake.

New intake ;) not really related but wanted to show it... :D

There is a "gas gauge" visual fill meter built into the side of the can so you can see how full it is. When I installed it that gauge was perfectly clear but you can how it is stained brown. (above)

Below a close up shot of the can itself, you need a small allen wrench to remove the 3 set screws to gain access to the inside.

Anyway just wanted to share a decent upgrade. PM (click) MuscleMerc (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/member.php?u=2458) if you want one.

Happy Labor day weekend everyone.

I'll definitely be getting one finally, going to clean the intake really well why it's off to do the even-flow rear head cooling mod.

God I hope not. I'm sure it isn't.

Thanks for the writeup Babb's! I'm glad the catch can is doing it's job.

You need to locate the 90* bend that use to be on the pcv valve and put it on. Here is a few pics of mine.

Great write up! I have one in the works as well and truly looking forward to installing it. Add that it plain looks cool. Was it difficult to remove the intake? It looks really accessible and I'd like to do the same. 31k and mine's filthy. I plan on keeping this car and this and all the other killer shared secrets and how to's make keeping one healthy. MuscleMerc FTW one Mo time!

Um, there's a teensy bit of dust on the top of the blower motor. Could you get that please?

Not saying a trap is a bad idea, but when I look at the deposits in the upper manifold it appears to me that most of the nastiness is probably coming from the EGR ports rather than the PCV port.

Thats the drain Dave. LOL!

i thought the drain was the tiny pipe fitting that was unused.

^^^No! That was blocked off to allow for the bigger 11/32" fittings.

Exactly.....and discoloration won't hurt a thing??:shake:

I have never had a catch can and have only done the SeaFoam once (couple years ago)......after the smoke I couldn't tell any difference!!

I have my original engine at 218K miles and 134K with the blower and as far as I know ....no intake oil issues!!

A "catch can" or what I'd call a "trap" cannot hurt a thing but it ain't necessary and only something else to keep up with!!:(

Looks very nice though!!

I'm sure some does however the PCV port on my old intake looks clean as thats where the seafoam went.. The catchcan is collecting oil so that's a good thing.

Great kit! templates and a lil bit of teflon tape wound on a toothpick. Easy install and Im glad I did it. Next is to get the the evenflow adapters and do the cooling mod / mod / mod (?) =). Stock PCV line being returned Monday so the next 3 guys can get their kits.
