Ive been getting this weird black varnish on my rear right wheel lately...I would just wash it off and attributed it to the wheel being closest to the curb, ect ect. So today while taking my wheels off to try on some 285/50/18 tires (not good...sticking with 245s for now) I notice my caliper is coated in something that smells like...like GL-5!!!! Lo and behold, I have a bad axle seal...like really bad. Anyone ever replaced their axle seals? Ive done this job on many Chevy 10 bolts and Mustang 8.8s...pretty much same dance, different partner?

It is very similar to the mustang 8.8 but if you are gonna do the bearings at the same time the races (at least to me) were much more difficult to remove that the mustang's..... All tools need to do the job are available from advance or autozone on their Loan-a-tool program.

Have you had the defecto axles replaced before?

Yep, same dance, different partner. Axel's are held in with "C" clips so removal of the diff cover is in order. Check the axel surface for pitting and other damage, replace if necessary, replace the seals, bearings and races. Use synthetic 75w140 fluid on the refill.

Probably bad axles too. Do the upgrade.

I did the axles on Phoebe a few months ago...if you've done this job on a Mustang 8.8", then it's the same. I got the axles from Rock Auto...Dorman brand...they come with new bearings, seals, studs and lugs, and the ABS ring already installed. Piece of cake.

I had to remove the parking brakes to get the axels in far enough to pull the C clips. Just an FYI.

Who told you axle seals/ "soft axles" were something you needed to watch for when you bought it? ;)
