View Full Version : No "Chip" For Me!!!!!!

I spoke with DR this AM and discovered the good ole Ford engineers are making it very difficult to modify the 2004 MM's EEC!! It seems the have closed the port on the EEC (on mine it says "Do Not Remove") and according to Dennis they have even removed some circuitry components so the "chip" won't work even if you do install it!!!:mad2:
NO FAIR!!!:flamer:
My only recourse is to send the EEC to DR or drive down to Jax to get it programmed in the car?? I'll probably opt for the latter....That way I'll get to meet the "Prince Of Power" himself!!!:D
I'm sure that in time there will be other alternatives but for now this is it!!;)

Well my 2003 goes real good stock.....I guess the new ones should start paying attention to all the na MODS

Not that long of a drive from Beaufort to Orange Park...pick a nice, sunshine day...and cruise down I-95.
You won't regret it...

Will the Super Chips Micro Tuner work on the 2004?

From what I've heard...no. However...Superchips Custom Tuning (you guys know this is Jerry and the boys and it is a different, though similarly named tuning device) will have it soon. How soon...I don't know...but ask Dennis.

Phone superchips with your EEC code and ask them if it's included in the current microtuner programming. Or contact Wes chain, he may be able to find out. It may be included in the most recent version.
Obviously the only way to change the programming in the '04 EECs will be to re-flash, so the SCMT or the SCT hand held flasher that is upcoming will be the only answer for you.

Go Ahead and tell 'um --how your planning on seeing and hearing the new roar and whistle--it's ok--and then you will surely want to go further down to Orange Park!

There is tuner yet for the 04 and mavbe not all 04's port is off I have no way of knowing till you try and install a chip so if that is the case I can flash the EEC I can have it back to you in three days

I've never been a fan of running a chip in a daily driver(have had lots of problems with Jetchips, and Superchips in previous vehicles), but this really sucks as there really is no way to optmize your power gains, or really do much without a chip as it appears on thsi vehicle. I understand running a chip can cause a slightly grey area in terms of the warranty, but why take that ability away from us?

You won't have any problems with chips or ECM re-flashes from either Dennis or Wes..I'm not aware of any issue with either vendor's chips that wasn't resolved to satisfaction...I was very happy with my chip from Dennis, and I'm delighted with my "Jerry-tune"... :D
As far as the warranty, it truly IS a gray area...some members' service managers (like mine) have indicated that ANYTHING done to the car will absolutely void the warranty, while others have actually encouraged performance mods... there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it...
I heard here that, for 2005, many more Ford products will have ECMs with no external service ports, so a re-flash is the ONLY way...

Even if I could get the ECM reflashed by Dennis on my phantom Marauder, I would have a problem with that mainly because it's permanent. At least with a chip, you could remove it if it caused any drivability issues, but with the reflash, you would have no choice but to send the ECM back to have the issue corrected, or take it to the dealer to reflash it with the factory program in which case you'll likely have to pay a labor fee along with risking getting blacklisted..............

June,
With the proper tune, there will be no "driveability issues", and no warrenty denials either (unless they are VERY clever) because they'll never even realize the programming was changed, AND your service port will be undisturbed.
As an addendum, any tune that accesses the "OBD-II" port should work for all model years of the MM. I believe that even the new Super Chips Custome Tuning will use the diagnostic port.

A tune that is accessed via the OBD service port is probably the most likely way i'll go when I finally decide to start molesting my stock Marauder. That way, it shouldn't be permanent, and you should have a way to reload the factory program............

Hey june....
I'm with you on the tuner!!;)
I appreciate Dennis and all he does for performance but my only real complaint is the nutty transmission shifting!! If I accelerate fairly hard it behaves and really scoots but under average driving conditions it "searches" around for another gear and upshifts too soon!!:(
I didn't buy this thing to race and don't care about 400+ HP.....Hell, I can scare myself to death in my Cobra!! I enjoy it for what it is....A VERY COMFORTABLE TOURING SEDAN!!!:D
"And that's all I have to say about that"!! (FG)??

Dennis.....
I hope you are referring to a tuner for my 2004 car next month??:(
I was gonna come down to have you reprogram my EEC but thought I might wait for your "tuner" or see what Lidio might have up his sleeve??
As I told you on the phone....I have no desire to build a racecar (I have one) but do want to straighten out the goofy transmission shifting!!:help:
Merry Christmas,
Marauderjack:cool:
PS: Tom was gonna stop off near Beaufort yesterday but he must have been going too fast through SC to stop??;) I read his post about your blower and he seems VERY HAPPY!! Nice work DR!!:D

Well if Lidio can help go ahead there is nothing out for the 04 yet, so as far as I know my self along withe the dynamic trio at SCT are the only ones that can flash thhe EEC, the new programers are about 30 days out so come on down I can have you in and out in a very short time.

*Sigh*
I wish I lived closer to a tuner. Unfortunately, a trip to a local Marauder tuner other than Kenny Brown in Indy, would be a very long drive.
