i noticed the numbers in each coil, my question is , when you buy replacement coil , the same kind do you need to look for the number under the new coil. and replace them that way

All 8 coil on plug units (cops) are the same.
Depending on mileage you should replace all 8.

Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe they were replaced. I bought the car at 92K. Is there a difference between what the factory installed and replacements?

To answer you question they're quit a few part numbers to coils that will work on our motors. You want the Ford numbers, the Motorcraft numbers?, or the Mercury number's?

At that price, I'll wait until they fail.

Almost 220K miles on my originals...gonna change them out next plug change but as far as I know they are still fine!!:bows:
BTW, the last 135K miles were supercharged!!:D Cannot imagine why folks have so many coil problems unless to OEM connectors are the culprit.....I've had GMS connectors for around 175K miles!!!:bows:

Coils are like anything else...Some fail early, some remain fine. Mine went without any warning at all. The car would just hesitate, shake and shutter at anything over 4000. Could have been just one or two or even the connectors??? I don't like to play guessing games myself so I replaced all eight and had full power again. They cost me less to buy all new motorcraft than to have the old ones tested.... I have the old ones on hand that I will gladly let someone test out.

Thanks for the part number. Those are described as ignition coils. What about the connectors?

If they are all one pirece, why do some people have Granitelli connectors?
Because some believe they work better than the stock connectors.
