View Full Version : What gas do you use?

When I met up with some of you I heard some have a preference for what gas stations you go to. I thought Shell was the best, but didn't know why. Now I heard B.P. is the best for us as long as we stray away from ethanol.

I really don't care what goes in the car, price is what get's me in. The station I use in this city has 10% ethanol, but it's the cheapest in town. I don't notice a difference in performance even with 550+HP. Octane isn't import to me either as long as it's the top grade. I do not care if 92 is all that's around or even 91. The car is holding up fine, never had an engine issue ever.

What do you guys will with and why?

I use 7-11, Exxon, Shell, whatever is there when I happen to need it. I've never gotten a bad tank of gas anywhere, and I've been everywhere, I'm convinced it's all the same.

Shell usually. V-POWER!

I'm all about BP. Before that it was Amoco (if anyone remembers that name) before BP bought them. They still keep the Amoco Ultimate name for the 93 gas.

But while driving though Canada, (which was surprisingly devoid of BP given their relationship with the UK) I had to try Shell and I was surprised that they had 98 octane and the car responded surprisingly well to it.

But where I live I have nothing but BP so that's what I use, and usually get a decent price 2.99 for 93 is pretty respectable in NYC.

I been sticking with either Shell V-power or Exxon. I been noticing better mileage and power with Shell gas.

Exxon or Shell. It seems gas from anywhere else and I just get less mileage to a tank. I also fill up at the same stations since my weekly route is set.

I'll be doing some much needed mods soon so I can only hope my gas mileage should increase some.

Also always check your tire psi, a few lbs low can be 4-5% decrease in total tank mileage.

Shell or Sunoco for me. I did get some bad gas about a year ago in Delaware, but I was lucky I don't usually go below 1/2 a tank. Caused some people big problems...me I just did a little sputtering and moved on.

Ditto. Our Sunoco has 100 for 7.99/gal. I'll get 110 at Haffners for same 7.99/gal though if so needed.
Dom, your car it like a big, mean pit bull that's going to turn on you some day cause you kicked it one too many times! :D

All gas comes from the same refineries and tanks. The only difference is the additive package. Expensive gas has more / expensive additives.

I run 93 from either BJ's or Hess when I'm home, on the road I run the cheapest I can find.

Hess seems to be good fuel as well, is there any truth to the rumor that its 100% American fuel ? If so would be enough reason for me to go out of my way and use that as much as possible..

Well I dunno about today's Exxon but I used to buy it at a local family operated service station and always was fighting a bucking problem in my 5.0 Mustang... Once before a a trip of about 200 mi, I filled up with Amoco 93 and when I arrived I noticed the bucking was gone, cool I thought just needed to be blown out a bit... For the return trip home I filled with Exxon and it started bucking before I could get out of the service station, arrghhhh!!! That was over 14 years ago and I've only bought Exxon if I was running low and wasn't sure where the next station was(and then only $10 or so)...

Now days I mostly buy Shell or BP...

I remember Amoco, American, and before that, they sponsored my Dad's stock car when they were Tydol!

Exxon-Mobil or Shell mainly.

Sometimes I hit an HEB (local grocery chain) or the WalMart when their prices are substantially lower than the big boys. It's usually only a couple of cents difference though, so I pay for the "high tier" gas. But I didn't used to pay much attention to where I bought gas - just went with the lowest price.

I also tend to put PRI-G in the tank every other fill up. Not sure if it does anything at all in gas you are just gonna burn anyway.

All I use in the MM and G35. No Shell stations near me and Sunoco does the shifty cash price advertising then it $0.03 more expensive than the Chevron up the road.

Me too. Better mileage with Shell; 2nd choice, Exxon, 3rd choice is usually BP; all 93 octane.

Keep in mind that BP doesn't own the stations, they're all locally owned.

As for the Gulf Coast, it looks a whole lot better today than it did three months ago. Ask me how I know... ;)

Yep its true. When I go to the Citgo refinery for work. I see tanker trucks of all brands pulling in to fill their tanks. Same goes for the Mobile refinery I drive by and a Mobile tank farm near the Citgo refinery where more tanker trucks of all brands pull in to fill their tanks.

I just fill up with premium from mostly where ever when I need it. But I get most of my gas at Shell or Citgo due to them being close by.

For the moment it's either BP or Sunoco. They are always bashing each other to have the lowest price near where I live so I benefit. In a few years the BP will become something else if the current cycle of name change keeps its course. Both fuels seem to work equally well. We have a Hess a bit further away and I get gas there if I am low and filling the tires with their free air. I am not adverse to using any name brand fuel as long as the octane is appropriate. I don't go to Goober gas or Billy Bobs gas as I can't attest to the burn rating of urine and tobacco chew in the tank.

Chevron, Valero, 76 and Shell.

No Costco, No Safeway, No Rotton Robbies, No USA gas for the Marauder/Mustang. The Burb; she will drink anything cheap with a 38.5 gallon tank.

Gas is Gas. The refiner (BP,Chevron, however) refine the gas and place it on the pipe line. Once it's on the pipe line they have credit to with draw. So the pipe line schedules time for the termenal to reseve the credit. The driver of the tanker tells the termenal who he's loading for (BP,Chevron. however) and loads out of the same tank everybody else is. The problem I have is the 10% ethenal. That s#^* is DANGEROUS! The people I talked with say some fire supresent systems won't put it out. You can't see it burning it's just all the sudden real freaken HOT. Besides that when you us ethenal your burning your food. So what I'm saying is gas is gas it's all made to a serton spec 87 or 93 octane, they blend 87 into 93 to make 89 or 91. The condition of the tanks your pumping out of can cause problems, trash, water can get in. I avoid 10% ethenal when I can, and the mom & pop stores around here try to sell 100% gas. 91 octane or better for the Granddaddy Marque (MM) but 87 for My Lit'l Blue Friend (06 Mustang GT). So all I'm saying is gas is gas.

Around here all Premium is 93, so that's a good thing, but honestly, we use whatever is convenient...mostly Gulf, Stop&Shop, BJ's, and occasionally Shell (not many stations locally). Neither car seems to care.

I avoid Mobil/Exxon for philosophical reasons...no problem with their gas or oil, I just don't want to give them any more of my money. (Not that it matters to them... )
