I bought Denso Irridium plugs from Dennis with the Stage Two package about 5 years ago. Took it to the dealer for service, tires, and to diagnose a miss.
They said I just need two new plugs and coils. They don't have the Denso's and I don't have time to wait for them to be shipped.
Is it OK to put two new motorcraft plugs in with the old other 6 Denso's? The shop said I don't need to replace the others. Is there any reason I should go ahead and replace all of them at the same time? They have about 70,000 miles on them.
I would replace all of them!

^Ditto^ Keep them all the same. You can always get two Densos later for a full matched set. Then again, five years... any signs of brown or blow-by on the ceramic base? Two bad coils? Or are they saying more than two?

Ditto. You can do it yourself. My FoMoCo dealer gets $84.00 an hour.
At that price you could get (8) Accel silver tip racing plugs.

I would change them all. If two are shot i would think the others can't be far behind.

You can just get a full set of 8 standard (usually called copper) plugs that are the same temp as the Densos (one step colder? the number on the Denso plug will tell you that). It might cost you $20 and you'll be all set.

I have runs in the 9's on Motorcrafts.

Sure, they'll lighten your wallet.
Less weight = lower ET.

Thanks guys. They put the two Motorcraft plugs in and replaced two coils. It does run better. No more miss.
I realized that it has been more than 5 years since I got these from Dennis. I got the plugs, the cooler thermostat, the torque converter, the matrix drive shaft, the 410 gears and a chip from him when I had about 12,000 miles on it, about 6 or more years ago I think.
The PCM has since been replaced and the chip does not work with the new one. So my shift points are off and the speedo runs about 10mph too much. It definatley is not as much fun w/o the chip, but I don't have an extra few hundred bucks to spend right now :-(

sounds like a clever software protection scheme depriving you of your paid-for product. typical.

I ran Motorcrafts all through my 13 second NA glory days.
The Iridiums made no difference with performance during our short hiatus.

What is the original PCM code? Should be on the driver door pillar when you open the door. You could sell that chip to someone that needs one and has that code.

Did you go a step colder or kept them stock temp?

sounds like a clever software protection scheme depriving you of your paid-for product. typical. :rolleyes:It's nothing that sinister. The catch code on the new PCM is different than the original and the chip no longer matches. The chip's vendor can fix that with a re-burn.

Val said she has no interest in going to the track event, but I am still trying to work her over!
