Hi folks!
I know that we just finished up with MV8 and I am really sorry/pissed that I missed it...:(...
but it is never too soon for another Marauder get together!
I had mentioned this idea to Rich Long some time ago and just ran it by Paula and Eric....aka 'Ms. Denmark' and 'Mr. Man'
I was wondering how many members would be interested in a Fall Brewery tour?
I'm thinking about a nice Saturday in early -> mid October when southern Pennsylvania's leaves are peaking to have a tour of one or more of the following:

Yuengling's Brewery

http://www.yuengling.com/over21/over21.php?referrer=http%3A%2F %2Fwww.yuengling.com%2F

Stoudts Brewery

http://www.stoudtsbeer.com/

Troegs Brewery

http://www.troegs.com/default.aspx

Victory Brewery

http://victorybeer.com/brewery/

What do you folks think?
Any other suggestions or ideas?

I'm starting a Poll to see which weekend fits best for a majority of member's schedules for a Southern Pennsylvania Brewery Tour.
I need to make a few phone calls, but all of the breweries offer tours on Saturday, only Stoudts offers tours on Sunday.

Most likely Pottsville, Pa. -> Yuengling Tour @ lunch time and then Adamstown, Pa. -> Stoudt Tour @ 3:00 pm.

Drivewise, they are about an hour apart.

I'm still interested in Troegs -> Harrisburg, Pa. and Victory -> Downington, Pa. (1/2 hour west of Philadelphia)

Mike. We were out and about in PA last evening and stopped for dinner at Pickles Restaurant, on the way home. Mr. Man noticed "Roast Pork and Sauerkraut Dinner steeped in Yuengling Beer" on the menu. I quickly changed my order from the Chicken Ceasar Salad to that. It was amazing!! BTW they also had "Roast Turkey with Yuengling Beer infused Stuffing" on the menu.

OK, just got off the phone with the Yuengling and Stoudts Breweries.

Yuengling has all their private tours booked through December 17th!....
They get over 500 people on Saturdays!
(They will call me if there are any cancellations of private tours on October 16th. The 16th was far and away the most popular date to hold the CAM meet.)

We can still show up and take a regular brewery tour which lasts about 1 hour and includes a free tasting afterwards. (1 beer on Saturdays)
They suggested showing up at @ 10:15 am for the 11:00 am tour. (Regular tours are at 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM on Saturdays.)
Then we all get the same colored wrist bands and would be on the same tour.
They can take 60 people per tour group.
Parking at the brewery is on the street, so they said to use the parking garage 3-> 4 blocks away and we could all park together in the garage.

Stoudts has tours at 3:00 PM on Saturday and I'm waiting for a call back from their PR person about our group tour.

Here is what I'm thinking for Saturday's events:

9:00 - 9:45 AM: Meet at the Pottsville parking garage on 2nd Street and Mahantongo.

http://www.city.pottsville.pa.us/police/parkdeck.htm

10:10 AM: Walk up 3 blocks to Yuengling brewery for 11:00 AM tour.

11:00 - 12:00 AM: Yuengling Brewery Tour!

12:00 - 12:15 AM: Finish tour, buy goodies and head back to garage.

12:15 AM - 1:45 PM: Lunch in Pottsville before heading to Adamstown/Stoudts Tour. (I'm checking on "good eats" locations.)

1:45 PM - 2:45 PM: Drive down to Adamstown for 3:00 PM Stoudt's Brewery Tour. (Mapquest is showing a 58 minute drive.)

3:00 - 4:00 PM: Stoudts Brewery Tour!

4:00 - 4:15: Finish Tour, buy goodies and walk across parking lot to Black Angus Restaurant and Brewpub for an early dinner.

http://www.stoudtsbeer.com/restaurant-pub.html

6:00 PM: Sleep it off in the parking lot before saying "Goodbyes" and heading home....:D....Just Kidding!

Some of you have mentioned a two day trip...I'm open to suggestions!
This isn't my meet...it's our meet!

A nice "Leaf Drive" would be great on Sunday. Anyone familiar with the area's country/scenic roads?

Also, I could check with Troeg's (1:30, 2:00 & 2:30 PM) and the Victory (12:00 PM) Breweries about private tours on Saturday if Yuenglings and Stoudts are not favored.

Let me know what everyone thinks.

Joe,
Thanks for putting together a fun weekend. Yuengling brewery would be my first choice but obviously those private tours are filled. I like what you have so far suggested. It might be a little tight time wise getting people out of the brewery in 15 mins after buying stuff and then off to the next place. Having said that I think it would work.

I myself will be making this a one day trip. I have "gotten rid" of the kids for the weekend, but we just got 2 Puggle puppies that will need to be tended to that day and the next AM. I can get a neighbor to help out that afternoon but that night I need to be home as well as the next AM. I am in rain or shine. If it rains the G8 will come out to play and we can have a show and tell with that. :D

I'm watching closely as this will be a fun day. Thanks again.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 16th!!!

Sorry folks....Our Fall Brewery Tour Poll got bumped pretty quickly by another Poll....:(

I need to get a pretty accurate headcount for Saturday's events.

Some members have expressed their concerns about the early/long drive on Saturday and also about staying overnight for Sunday.
I would encourage anyone who wants to, to stay overnight and enjoy a 'leaf drive' on Sunday with other "overnighters".
(I most likely will just be there on Saturday.)
Is anyone familiar with the area and know of a good 'country road/scenic tour' route for a possible Sunday drive??
The Fall colors should be close to peak.
The schedule of events remains unchanged for Saturday, unless someone has other suggestions.
I apologize for the early start and busy day, but all the breweries I contacted, except one, run their tours on Saturdays.
I have a seperate room in the Black Angus restaurant reserved for the group after the Stoudt's tour.

Please confirm if you plan on attending and how many will be coming with you.

I have to finalize the number of guests and put a deposit down for the private room at the Black Angus soon.

For those spending the night, we are planning on seeing the "Field of screams" Halloween theme park that's in the area on Saturday night. Tickets are $25 a person which includes 3 attractions, the haunted hayride, the den of darkness, and the frightmare asylum.

Anyone wants to join us, post up. There is a group rate of 25 people or more but I don't think we'll make the cut this time.

Hey Joe,

WHAT TIME AND WHERE ARE WE ALL MEETING????

Post Number 61 says .....

Hey Joe,

WHAT TIME AND WHERE ARE WE ALL MEETING????

Sorry Paul,
I didn't even re-read my own thread!

We will be meeting at the Mahatongo Parking deck at the corner of Mahatongo and Second Street.
Parking Lot #1 on the link's map:

http://www.city.pottsville.pa.us/police/parkdeck.htm

We are going to take the 11:00 Yeungling's brewery tour.
The person I spoke with at Yuenglings sugeested that we get to the brewery by 10:30 am.
So we should all plan on meeting at the Mahatango Parking deck no later than 10:15am.
I'm planning on getting there between 9:00 and 9:30 am so that I can meet other members and say 'Hello' before we head up the street to Yuenglings.

I just confirmed today our reservation for lunch at Maroon's Sports Bar in Pottsville.

http://www.maroonssportsbar.com/

After lunch in Pottsville, we will head down to the Stoudt's Brewery for our 3:00 pm tour.
It is about a 1 hour drive down to Adamstown. (Mapquest says 55 minutes.)

We have a reserved private room at the Black Angus Restaurant for an early dinner at 3:45 -> 4:00 pm.

I need everyone who will be joining us for dinner after the Stoudt's brewery tour to help me out ASAP.

Stoudt's will only offer our group seating a choice of 4 items off of the menu.

This is to assure that we all get served at the same time and relatively quickly.

They are having "MicroFest" with live bands the same day, so they will be very crowded.

http://www.stoudtsbeer.com/events.html

Please let me know what would be your 4 choices for dinner.
I'm trying to pick menu items that will please the majority of attendees.

Just one person, me, my brother has plans. My 1st choice is the prime rib, but I am real flexible, just no fish for me, like to catch em but not eat em. I plan to be at the restaurant/bar around 2 pm, check out the band & wait for all and the tour. i live about 1-1/2 hours east in Philly and winds are scheduled for 40-50 mph here, hold onto your hats.

Charlie....Jim.....we missed both of you guys! We had a blast yesterday and getting ready for a lot more fun today!! Joe did a great job of planning. And he has pictures to post! Saturday we all met in Pottsville, PA and did the tyre kicking thing at the parking garage. Mr. Man showed off his bone stock Black 300a production # 186 with 16K on the clock. (Fordfrk threatened never to speak to me again calling me a traitor for not bringing my SB.) Took a very interesting tour of the Yuengling brewery....the oldest one in America complete with free samples! Then had lunch at Maroon's Sports Bar upstairs in a private room. Made a pit stop at the Beer outlet (U turn #1) then caravaned to Adamstown for a very informative Stoudt's brewery tour. Did a little shopping at the Cheese shop/bakery then on to the private banquet room for an amazing 4 course dinner. A second U turn) Enjoyed making trips to the "loo" to peruse the charming vintage "porno" which adorned the walls! LOL! Kicked some more tyres in the parking lots and headed to Ephrata for an executive planning meeting. (U turn #3) Today we are scouting out things to see and do for a future meet. Looks like a beautiful day out there!

(sorry no pictures of the loaves of beer bread and chocolate/cherry bread that we bought....uhmmmmm!)

Finally we had a nice relaxing round of beers and a delicious dinner at the Black Angus Pub & Restaurant:

After dinner, Gordon showed us Chris' new addition to her Marauder:

Great Pics, Joe and Chris. Looks like you had excellent weather for the trip. Although some of the folks look just a tad "chilly". Sorry that we missed this one. Just couldn't drag my azz outta bed at 5 AM. ;)

Congrats Eric on your "new" Black MM. Nice!!!! How do you decide which one comes to the events now? Bring both.

That's why we drove up on Friday night. Had just a 30 minute drive over to Pottsville to meet the gang.

Considered that too; but things have been pretty crazy at work running late on Fridays .... and every other day too.

Just want to add that Eric and I really enjoyed this meet! The weather was just so "Autumnal"...perfect in every way. The tours in Pottsville and Adamstown were informative and fun and the food was great! But as always the best part of the weekend was spending it with all these really great people that we never would have met.... if not for the sheer coincidence that we all have Marauders and joined MM.net! That never ceases to amaze me!!

So "thank you" to Joe Walsh & Marianne, Haggis & Ladyhawke, fordfrk & HammerDown, Marauder & Mrs. Marauder, Jim Kelly, Blackened300a & Voula. You are all amazing and ...... We enjoyed spending the weekend with you!!
