Our temps have been over 95*. I installed Flex-a-lite 480. It has it's own adjustable controller. Coolant temps are 192* at speed -210* peak bumper to bumper.
They are a perfect fit for the set up I have.
The problem with the Cent is you cannot use the OEM fan shroud. It is the shroud that determines the air flow thru the rad. Due to the location of my bypass just below the discharge the OEM upside down would not fit.
You cannot go by the "idiot lite", it does not move until 230*-240*.

Did it fix your overheating problem?
Did you install the thermostat I recommended?

Do you think your Thermostat will help?

It should lower the temps at speed a bit but in traffic the 210* is likely from lack of airflow. At 210* either a 170* or a 180* thermostat will be wide open, the 170* will only give you a little more time before everything gets heatsoaked and the temps start climbing.

10* still helps. when i idle my car for more than 10 minutes on 90 plus degree weather it stays between 205* to 215* thats with the 180* thermostat. i just stay away from idleling for long periods of time.
Zack, where can i get the 170* thermostat?

The easiest fix is to just remove your grill during the Summer.

I have a grill with all the bars cut out, but the lip still mounts so it look like a whale shark!

i dont know if that would fix it. like i said, my problem is only on idle.
when cruising on the hwy at the same temps it stays between 185* to 188*.

Sure it will, I know for a fact 8*=10* @idle. Think about it when you are stopped you are relying only on the air drawn by the fan. Reduce the resistance and more air will flow.

man, my fans don't even come on until 220deg. Wish I could figure out where in the tune to change that

Powerwash the radiator and intercooler. I had this same exact problem. A trip to the coin car wash solves this.

Only solves it if your rad, condensor and trans cooler are dirty.
W/out a coolant temp guage you have no idea what your coolant temps are.

Turn your a/c off and all is solved. When the N/A Cobra first came out the ones in the South were over heating. Ford did a TSB and replaced the conden w/ one that allowed more air to flow.

OMG this thread is failing quick

A stock 188 or 180 is not fully open, even at 190+ degrees.
Put the thermostat in like I told you and you could have avoided all this nonsense.

If your fan on settings are not correct, nothing you install will make a difference anyways. High speed on at 190ish, low speed on at 184
The pcm turns the fan OFF at any speed above 50mph.

Here are the pics of what your 180 stat is actually doing vs. the thermostat I told you to get:

Although the thermostst is 50 bucks, its worth it.

After I bought my 1st one, I looked how it was made and I duplicated another one for 18 bucks in parts....welding required, very very small weld.

All you need is a 180 stat and a Stant 170 stat.
Remove the 170 spring then install it in the 180 housing...weld, grind, smooth done.

Yes, I spent the money and found it to work exactly as described.

OK...I'll bite....I understand the springs...But, what's the difference between the housings?...:dunno:

The 188 or 180 housing has the properly designed bypass for our thermostst housings, a VERY important aspect of the thermostat.

Can't you do the old: "Just drill a 1/8" hole in the edge of the thermostat" trick?

Sure but it wont perform as good as the one offered by Reisch.

My Question - "Do you think your Thermostat will help?"

Reischeperformance answer - "It should lower the temps at speed a bit but in traffic the 210* is likely from lack of airflow. To answer your question I did not buy it based on his answer. His answer was what I expected based on the issue I was having.

It is only an issue when ambient above 95* and you do not have the OEM fan shroud.

I cant believe you think by removing the grill it will improve airflow.

OMG.

How will it not? I have done test showing it does.

I am very familiar with air flow. I have spent thousands of hours studying it.

Take the screen off the window from your house. Does it increase, reduce or keep air flow the same?
Put a section of screen over one side of a box fan. Does it increase, reduce or keep air flow the same?

so there is an ability in SCT to change on and off temps with A/C off? Let me know so I can let Snipertuning or whatever they are called now know that my template needs adjusting again.

Oh dear lord yes.

Skanks, I've had to have my template adjusted 3 different times already, I have no idea how people before the corrections could do anything at all the way it was when I got it. Either way I'll let em know that SCT can do it, so it's not like it's some voodoo magic controlling the fans.
