I have installed the follwing speakers in my 04 MM.

Front: Infiniti Reference 6800 cs 5x7, 6x8 component. I put the tweeter on the sail panel next to side view mirrors

Rear: Kenwood 5x7, 6x8 Excelon KFC-X688C
Sub woofer: Rockfordfosgate RFP4406. With some minor mods this sub fits nicely into the factory box.

trunk: 6 disk CD changer from Crutchfield and arriving next week Infinity Basslink.

The sound is amazing. What a difference.
All product purchased on Ebay except Rockford-- Crutchfield

Thanks to MMpridenjoy for those pix and to those who sent me pm on this matter. One more thing, I slipped and slightly damaged the sail panel on passenger side. I would like to buy one. Any info??

Would like to see and know how you fitted Rockford into the factory subwoofer box.

Great job. Dod you mean you damaged the package tray where the speaker grills fit? Check with Ray, known here as TheDealer. I am sure he could replace it for you.

I reduced just enough in the box not to make a hole in it. I removed the rubber ring around the magnet and according to Crutchfield that is not a problem. I used the speaker rubber ring as this would enahance the bass. I drilled my own holes through the box using the speaker as a template. It works fine. Remember you are not going to get thunderous bass out of a 6.5 inch sub. But the sound is remarkable. Good luck.

Humm, I installed the Rockford Fosgate sub last month. Now looking for 5x7's and 6x9's to rock the rest of my world.

Hey merc,

Does the replacement of the subwoofer alone make a big difference? I've been debating about changing it.

I personally think the sub-replacement gave me more punch on the mid and lower bass spectrums. On the bogie meter, I would give it an 8 compared to the factory sub score of 5. I just replaced the OEM 5X7 rear deck speakers with 5X7 Alpines this week, and then I compared them to the factory front channel. I believe that replacing all the factory OEM speakers are necessary to have a clean and better sound. Most have replaced just the door and rear deck speakers, that doesn’t complete the package. Some will argue that replacing the head unit and adding an after market amplifier would also improve the sound. Yes that would also help, but I was attempting to keep the price low. My total cost is 350.00 dollars in speakers, not to include my personal labor. Keeping that cost in perspective, I got real bang for the dollar, or maybe Boom for the dollar.

merc,

That sounds good. I'll run right out and get one one those subs, for now. Are the necessary mods self-explanatory when you're doing the install. If not, tell me what to do. Thanks.

I wish I had a photo of the installation, but I don't. The above link should help with some details on the installation.
