View Full Version : Door lock horn honk
So I got my new to me MM home last night and when I pressed the lock button once the horn honked which of course is the default. With all my Ford's I've always disabled that feature. So of course I brought the manual in and looked up the procedure to cancel that feature, should be simple right, well wrong. I followed the procedure as in the manual. Key on unlock button 3 times, key off unlock 3 times, key on. Instead of the few seconds it mentions before it locks and unlocks the door it did it as soon as the key was turned to the on position. Hit the button on the remote and it still honked the horn. Repeated and same thing. :mad2: I gave up then because it was late and didn't want to annoy may neighbors anymore, which of course is why I want to deactivate that feature. So anyone else not able to cancel this feature by using the instructions in the manual or am I going to have to track down the wire from the RAP module to the horn relay and clip it?

I've wanted to disable this feature from day-1 also. I'm not even sure you can. (Yes...I've read the maunual back and forth). If it's in there - I must have missed it.

I always press the right-most two digit pads on the keyless lock to silently lock all the doors after exit.
Didn't know there was a procedure to cancel the beep from the remote. However, I bet if I look it up in my electrical manual for the car, there is a wire coming from the security system to the horn circuit that could be "disabled" with a wire cutter.
I'll check tonight when I get home.

I had the Ford Code alarm installed back in 9/02 when I got the MM and I had the installer disable all horn and light flashes:)
Sorry I can't help with the factory setting.

Before I got my Remote start Ford/Code Alarm I was able to follow the book and disable the horn when locking and unlocking the Marauder with the remote.

I want to go the other way.
The horn is off on mine and I want it on....
For the 2 posters that want to change their settings the directions are on page 70 at least in my first printing version of the 03 manual.
After reading it again DUH I missed step #6, I guess becaue on my other Fords it didn't take that many steps.
So after pulling my head out and doing the procedure properly, I'm happy to report that yeah it does a silent lock now. Unforutnately it disabled the light flash and aparently the light turn on upon unlocking as well.
Because I like the light flash if you could find the circuit, and it's color, TooManyFords I would appreciate it.
The reason I don't use the keyless or door control is that often my PITA kids drag their butts even opening the door, let alone getting out of the car, and I want to the house. So I typically don't lock it until I am walking in the house, and they've finally opened their doors.
Thanks again, and again I'm impressed with the response rate here, can't be beat even at very friendly, flame free, sites with a much larger membership.

interesting, I'll have to try this again, when I first got my car I tried it numerous times, if I remember correctly many of us 04 folks couldn't get it to work but it worked fine on an 03

I like mine, if I don't remember if I locked it, push the button, and I know, plus if I can't see it in a parking lot, push the button, and I've found it.

when I got mine, it locks and unlocks silently without light flashes, but it does turn on the interior light when unlocking which is nice.
Works great, never messed with it.

That was one of the first things I did was disable the honk. Lights still flash but only do it at night time not during the day. I want to disable the RED button. Drives me crazy!!!! It will be in my pocket and I'll lean against something and it takes forever to stop it from honking. Should I say it again..... DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I like the way most of my other Ford products have been set up. For example my 03 Mountaineer. Push lock button once and doors lock no light flash or beep. Push it twice with all the doors and hatch closed an it beeps once and flashes the lights. Push it twice with a door open it beeps twice and doesn't flash the lights. Close the open door and the lights flash. On it with the unique Satin aluminum roof rack rails it is easy to pick out in a field of vehicles. If it is blocked by a larger SUV then yeah I like the beep to find the car. Which is why I'm torn between beep and no beep. I do like the lights on when it is dark and you unlock the doors, a feature the Mountaineer doesn't have.
The huge differences in the way the Mountaineer and Marauder accessories work really amazes me. Seems like many of these things should be pretty standardized across all Ford products of a given year.
Are the doors suppose to lock automatic after it is put in drive and start driving? My Marauder has never done this but the an 2001 F150 does as many other Ford models. Is mine disabled?

They can be programmed to lock...or not. Mine are OFF.
I have a Ford alarm system but I have it programmed with auto arm OFF, self locking OFF, chirps/horn OFF. The lights do flash on arm/disarm and interior lights come on when disarming. Some features are controlled via the alarm, and others directly via the standard keyless entry system...when I first got the car it would chirp (alarm) AND honk (keyless entry) and it would self arm just getting out to get gas, drove me crazy so I shut it all down. As far as auto locking, I drive the car alone (unlocking only my door in general) so it makes no sense to cycle all of locks every time I get in it and/or start driving...
