Have not posted for a while, but thought I'd post this.
Prestige Ford here in Mount Dora has an ad; "Manager's Special"
2003 Mercury marauder. Only 61K miles. $16,988. OK, I know the price is high, but thought I'd go and take a look at it. (it is a 2003 300A) Was with my buddy in his 2005 Jaguar XJR
1. Aftermarket 20" Wheels. Both front and rear tires are the same size. Also, the wheel offset was not correct, as the tires stuck out quite a bit from the car. UGLY!
2. Aftermarket Exaust.
3. Saleslady said that the "young previous owner hopped up the engine for more power" Looked under the hood, and yes, it has a "cold air intake" and who know what else.
Although the black paint looked ok, and the interior also looked ok, I would never buy this car. Looks like it could have been abused.
I told the saleslady that the only person who would buy this car is someone who does not know anything about Marauders, and not at this price.
Because this is the Ford Dealer I always use for service, I did not want her to get angry with me, so I told her that if it had been a Silver, or a DTR, or better yet, a Blue in stock condition, I would consider it, but not this (POS - no I did not say that <grin>) particular car. (Also, I'll never buy a Black car again - I want to drive them, not clean them after every outing).
BTW, yes, once in a while, you do see a stock MM in great shape. While on a trip last May, I met a guy at a gas station with a pristine 03 MM. Very low miles. Said he only drives it on special occasions. Completly stock. Just the way I like them.
