2003 MM 300A. Bought 2 weeks ago, she has 48k on the clock. Runs like a bunny, but CEL is throwin code P1451 (Evap Purge Solenoid). Has anyone else had this issue? I have an EVAP Solenoid on the way, but it might just be a bad connection (?) In my research, I found that Ford Rangers and F150s had/have this issue as well. In their instance, it was a wire rubbing on the frame (I think) and coming apart causing the code. Just trying to get a vibe if anyone knows where a good place to start on my babydoll is?
Also, once the problem is resolved, will I need to reset the system or will the light go out after it runs a few cycles?
THANKS!!

I have the same problem. I've been waiting on a answer as well. Some said it may be the rubber line running to it has gotten old and dry rotted.

P1451 indicates an electrical problem with the Canister Vent Solenoid circuit or with the solenoid itself, nothing to do with hoses.
Without an NGS to cycle the system, all you can do is check the wiring for cracks, splits, chafing, corrosion and continuity.
The Canister Vent Solenoid is located in that flat black "panel" that is attached under the trunk. It's the tubular device and the only thing with wires. You can check that for continuity as well, but the FSM doesn't list a resistance, so I don't know what is an acceptable reading.

Actually my canister vent solenoid was located on the passenger side under the engine comparment. I replaced it and it was fine for 5 days (300 miles). HOWEVER that WAS NOT the problem. The problem was just as you described RF Overlord, "located in that flat black 'panel' that is attached under the trunk". A wire wore itself bare and they repaired it at the shop for me. no longer an issues. I have found out this is a common problem in alot of Fords, since this was the same cause, code and repair on my sons 1998 F150.

I pulled my code yesterday and cant remember which it is. But it said something about a small leak. I'm guessing its at that place under the trunk

Mine was only the P1451 and it clearly states evap solonoid when you pull it. The one in my son Chris' truck was not, he had 2 different codes. However, in both cases it was the same thing....a short in the wiring. I hate electrical and plumbing on my rides. I dont have the patience to chase shorts or leaks. I took both vehicles to a local shop here, and in both instances they only charged me $80, found the short, and fixed it.

Actually my canister vent solenoid was located on the passenger side under the engine comparment. I replaced it and it was fine for 5 days (300 miles). HOWEVER that WAS NOT the problem. The reason that was not the problem is that that is not the Canister Vent Solenoid. What you replaced was the Canister PURGE Solenoid. The chafed wire that was fixed was for the Canister VENT Solenoid.
