I have an issue that I’m trying to figure out. First off this site is awesome!!!! I’ve been lurking for over a year and finally pulled the trigger about a month and a half ago. I bought a bone stock 03 SB with 52k and love it. Here is my issue: Under hard acceleration as the rpm’s climb past about 3500 it feels like the transmission wants to shift. Sometimes it hangs at around 3500 for about a half second and then continues pull hard just like it should. Other times it drops about 200 rpm and then snaps back and continues pull hard. Its almost like the TC wants to lock and then changes it mind. Under WOT everything happens normally just like it does under normal acceleration. Big Deal? Thanks

Welcome :banana2:

These cars stock have a wacky shift schedule, definitely worth investing in an SCT tuner and a tune from one of the vendors here. Will smarten the shifts and the car will feel at least 10x funner to drive afterwards.

That's the lock-up schedule for the clutch in the converter - there are a number of people on this site that have tunes to cure this.

Ok….. thanks for the quick replies. If there is one thing I’ve learned on this site its that I need 4.10 gears and a tune. I’m just saving my money so I can do them both at the same time. Mr. Denmark how does one become a member of the Silver Birch Society?

+1 on all that. My 2004 had the same issue; into overdrive before I get 100 feet. Now she feels PERFECT! Snappy upshifts at the right time and no more manually shifting like a dork. Yes, the 4.10 gears were the most dramatic cheap mod I have done. The underdrive pulley is up there too!

Welcome to the site. As everyone said get a tune. In addition have the trans fluid & filter changed every 30,000 miles use mercon V.

In addition have the trans fluid & filter changed every 30,000 miles use mercon V.^^^what burt said^^^

Half the transmission shops would go out of business if people would just change the fluid once in a while...
